I just saw a trailer for Dungeons & Dragons 2, and it looks like it might not compleatly suck.
It seems that this one appears to be truer to the source material.
Of course, you would almost have to make a concerted effort to be worse than the last one...

| Indeed, I too was pleasantly surprised. Still rather ticked off that the Evil Dragon God is for some reason not Tiamat (the evil dragon god of D&D pretty much by default). |

Just saw it. Was a much better D&D movie than the first one, so that made me happy, even if it was still pretty disjointed.
Good sense of it being a D&D adventure, with the appropriate traveling, traps, puzzles, and such, though it fell apart at the climax as the plot came together in such a way as to make very little sense.
One intelligent dragon, one dumb one.
The wizard cast 4 different spells, I think, which was better than the first one.
I have no idea why they killed off the cleric. He didn't even really have time to become a character.
Things I learned:
Neutral gods of nature in it's pure form can be the main religion of a kingdom.
When you mismatch a dragon's color and breath weapon, it destroys all credibility, as it would take 2 minutes to look up the right information.
Yelling at someone to not kill an enemy because they need him to break a curse, then threatening to kill him unless he breaks said curse, is an effective tactic.
Siccing an evil dragon god on a kingdom is apparently not grounds for anything more than a life sentence. Possibility of parole not mentioned.
Goblins make useful maps, then hide them so they can't get at them without being impaled.
Anyways, at least they threw a few of the appropriate names and phrases around, even if the knowledge of what they meant was a bit lacking. |

| This is ill news, Kreen. Circumstances prevented me from watching or recording it on its first showing, so I resolved to try again when it replays Thursday. Meanwhile, I was hoping it was worth a good hatchet job, because I've been in need of a good fun project and was looking forward to this being a prime candidate. From the sound of it, it was a decent movie if you overlook some relatively minor discrepancies. |

The thing that bugged me most about the first D&D film was that it was pretty obvious one of the characters was having a relationship with the DM.

Nope. He also lost the weird demon tentacle things.
Despite this, he still looks dorky as heck. |

| First no Tiamat, and now no blue lips on Damodar? What the hell was left for us to watch then? Next you'll be telling us that the hero's not gifted at some point with a mystical sword of legend, and doesn't get a girlfriend by the end. |

Actually, right on both counts. The main hero has a relatively minor magic sword (it cuts through inanimate objects well, or something) and a wife from the beginning that he keeps through the end.
They do get a magical legendary orb thingy, though. I think. The climax didn't make too much sense. |

A sword for cutting through inanimate objects doesn't seem quite as useful as one that would be good for cutting people trying to kill you, but it's a step up from the +3 sword of vague beneficence the elves unloaded onto Ridley.
But a fantasy hero who's married? Happily? And she doesn't die tragically or get turned to the dark side or anything? Now I really need to see this movie. |

Well, if a guy in ARMOR was comeing at you, it would come in handy! But with my luck, the GM would rule that armor was an articulated object and thus the sword gets "-2 to hit" or something. |

I dunno -- a sword able to go through a door while remaining a useful sword does sound kinda useful. I mean, it's not Excalibur's scabbard, but it's better than a +2 Dagger of Cap-Snaffling, because there aren't any caps to snaffle.

I had a friend who used to argue Stonecutter was the most useless sword in Saberhagen's Swords series. I guess it was a popular sentiment because he countered by producing a book that delt almost exclusively with it. The outcome was that such things can be darn useful (and it isn't like it's harmless to flesh, so it's still a good weapon in general).
