Firefly and Police Squad share the unique distinction of being one of the few TV series to have spawned feature films despite the fact that both shows were cancelled after only a few episodes.
Any other shows out there that met extremely early demises that you would have liked to have seen get turned into feature films... ideally starring their original casts?
Kolchak comes to mind... I'm talking the original now... but that's the only one.

I'm not so sure about feature films - it's really difficult to make that cross-over. But I wouldn't mind seeing what the following would look like: "Now and Again" "Fantasy Island" (the Malcolm McDowell one - much darker than the original) "Best of the West" (I thought it was pretty funny - at least back then).

I thought McDowell's version was pretty silly. At times it was PAINFUL to watch. Try the FIRST season of Fantasy Island or (Better yet) the pilot movie. Some of the stories were pretty grim and hard nosed. EXAMPLES FROM THE PILOT: Bill Bixby re-creates a war-time romance, then murders(?) the actress playing his lover and has a nervious breakdown. (It's not clear if he did kill her and O'Roark is covering it up) A hunter who wants to be hunted is stalked by some men he had wronged. When he reaches the "home free" line, the other hunter says "To hell with Mr O'Roark!" and tries to shoot him anyway, but O'Roark wounds him. He then reviels that the men hunting the first man were every bit as scummy as the hunter.
How can you compare Montalban's cheerful "Smiles, everyone! Smiles!" to McDowell's sneering delivery?

| I'd like to see Kevin Smith make Clerks: The Animated Series: The Animated Movie. Or something like that. It was cancelled after only 2 episodes. |

Easily. The premise was completely different. The original was based on the notion of Ricardo playing an angelic character who was an agent of Heaven. Malcolm's character was based on the opposite. Not to mention the absolutely ridiculous character of "Tattoo". McDowell’s sidekick had a wonderfully poignant redemption that revolved around his childhood issues that was never matched in the sappy original 70's version (although I did like the "Love Boat" style parade of 2nd rate "stars"). Would you actually go see a feature film based on the original? If so, then we might as well include "My Living Doll" (at least that had Julie Newmar)

From the ABC is a big fat stupidhead that destroys everything it touches department I would like to see Cupid and Maximum Bob have feature films made of them. And as for Fantasy Island, I'm pretty sure after a Dukes of Hazzard feature there's no way a Fantasy Island pic isn't in some stage of development. I liked both versions which could each in their own way get pretty dark. The orginal it was funny to see the kistch matched with so much bleakness, "you brought Jack the Ripper back through time with you? well are we on a colision course to wackiness or what?" and the new version an intresting flip with McDowell's character being much more puckish than fatherly.

I think "The Prisoner" would be a good choice, too (the 1967 version). I also concur with "Brisco County Jr."

I third Brisco County, Jr.
If you count animated shows, I would like to know whatever happened to Samurai Jack and Aku. There are quite a few shows out there that just ended without a resolution, but that's the one that seems to most incomplete thanks to the 52 episode rule.

Space Cases. Man, I would have loved to find out what the ending of that was supposed to be.
Jewel Staite was in that one, too. |

The answer is obvious: NBC's classic, Viper.
OK, well, maybe not.
If we're counting animated series, then I'd go for Invader Zim.

Which incarnation of Viper do you mean? The original or the syndicated comeback version. As long as I get to see Heather Medway on the big screen, I'm a happy monkey. And Jeff Kaake needs the work, dammit! I'm all for dopey fun, but Viper was dopey...to the extreme! I'm astonished that this isn't out on DVD yet. |
