The old Titans topic is gone, so I decided to go ahead and start a general animation discussion.
The first few episodes of the new season of Teen Titans were okay at best, but trust a Control Freak episode to perk things up. I'm not sure what I liked best about it; the RPG parody, that whole sequence that was basically centered around an Incredibles reference, the various chatroom discussions, or Control Freak wandering through the tower attempting to deliver his villianous address.
Control Freak in that Starfire costume is quite possibly the single creepiest thing ever.
Ridiculously Early Animation Academy Award Forecasting: Howl's Moving Castle The Corpse Bride Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit Chicken Little Madagascar
Madagascar is my pick for the annual Jimmy Neutron Memorial Award Winner.
Best art? Howl. Best story? Bride. Probable Winner: W&G, for sentimental reasons.
BM: I should have mentioned this at the beginning. I solve my problems with violence. |

I too think Wallace and Gromit will probably win..."Oh, they lost their studio? Let's give them an award." Of course, Wallace and Gromit is entirely award-worthy. Personally, though, I'd give it to Corpse Bride. I just love that damned film.
Oh, and when did Jimmy Neutron die? |

That's just a reference to that one Academy Awards where the animated category consisted of: Shrek (winner), Monsters, Inc.(was robbed), and Jimmy Neutron (just happy to be here, folks).
I give the Memorial Award to any animated film that is obviously just there to round out the category. Chicken Little could probably qualify as well, though I'd personally label that the Obligatory Disney Nominee instead.

Disney is going to push Chicken Little VERY hard, as it's their play to show that they "don't need" Pixar. Even if they end up taking Pixar back (which I've heard is looking likely at this point) having a thriving CG studio of their own will help them in renegotiating the contract.
By the way, I've seen pics and clips of some of Disney's upcoming CG movies to follow "Chicken Little" and...well, maybe I've always had a soft spot for Team Rodent, but they look rather interesting. The visuals are pretty spectacular, and not really like any CG movie we've seen so far. "Rapunzel Unbraided" has a rather astonishing look to it. And "A Day With Wilbur Robinson" apparently involves alien abduction, so cool.
Anyway, Wallace & Gromit have the Best Animated Oscar locked up this year. Incidentally, I'm pretty sure there'll only be 3 slots for nominees (I believe there have to be at least 8 qualifying animated movies released in a given year for there to be five slots.)

When I first saw the trailer for Chicken Little, I thought it might be cute and the spaceships were pretty cool looking. Now that I've seen the trailer several times, it really looks like they're going for the ultra-hip, in-joke filled Shrek vibe...ie, I think it's probably going to suck.
Still, keeping my preconceptions at arms length...it might actually be good. But it won't be as good as Pixar stuff. Pixar has enough sense to concentrate on story and keep the jokes where they're appropriate. |

Not a chance in hell. They are releasing it in 3-D folks. That's 3-D when it wasn't even made that way. They just went and re-rendered the film slightly off axis, but it was definately a desperate attempt to create some vague interest in it through a gimmick. If a film wasn't meant to be 3-D right from the start, switching to it is just short of adding "Emergo" in the horror horn of "major turkey and they know it" realm.

If you ask me, Jimmy Neutron was dead on arrival.

Something I've noticed about the Chicken Little ads is that the more amusing material seems to be constructed purely for the trailers while the actual film clips themselves often seem to fall flat.
Not to mention the fact that we've been given quite a bit of the plot in these trailers, which proves that they've learned nothing from Pixar.

I want to like TEEN TITANS, but the fact that its so anime-styled really turns me off. It comes off as insincere, unlike the other DC universe cartoons.
MikeC, I guess I'm just gettin' old.... |

| Wallace and Gromit also have the advantage in that AMPAS loves Nick Park. The whole category was pretty much created because of Chicken Run. |

Doesn't hurt that it was the best animated movie of the year.

"The Curse of the Were Rabbit" was tremendous fun and I wouldn't mind seeing it win an Oscar at all. I just like "Corpse Bride" more.
Of course, I haven't really given a mighty fling who does or doesn't win the Oscars for years, now.
It seems (other topic entirely) that the Best Actress winner for the last 25 years or so has seen her career collapse almost immediately afterward. |

| The race for the Oscar would be more interesting if Pixar had their horse running. Unfortunately, Cars won't be out until 2006. |

Well yeah, hence my putting it in quotes.
