AG, thanks for the link. Lileks nails the film. I forgot about the nuking of the domes. Yep, that makes sense too.
If I remember correctly, the drones had midget amputees in them. They are one of the better things in the film. The ship models were also good.

You prune!!! I was tortured at teatime for YEARS with stupid Buck Rogers!! I had almost forgotten it and managed to stop twitching and now I'm * off agai*n...
Even at a young age I realised that a show that ends with a lame joke every week (it seems like that in retrospect) was drivel. Possibly my youthful hatred is colouring my opinions. Was there anything good about it?

As in guinea pigs? I love guinea pigs, and your mention of the lovely little fluffy things has made me kind of forget B*ck R**ers. Normal service may be resumed. (Or not.)

I dunno -- I think Silent Running has enough good notions behind it to make it worth seeing; although it's got more than its share of plot holes.
The whole "last forest" concept, of course, doesn't work at all logically; but the plot -- guy stuck alone in a metal box in space slowly cracks up to the point where he makes friends with his automated vacuum cleaners -- that's pretty fascinating.

JN, the problem is that you can say that about most films. Even "Battlefield Earth" had some good notions behind it. Also, the recently reviewed "Origin of the Superfriends" had some good notions behind it. Putting the notions into a good script and executing them is what makes the difference.

Yeah, that's true. It's not like there's a clear line of demarcation between "good" films and "bad" films. It's a big fuzzy grey spectrum from "Great film" to "I can see why you didn't like it, but..." to "I can see why you liked it, but..." all the way down to "You're kidding me."
Personally, I think "Silent Running" had enough good parts that I can hand-wave the bad parts.
