Hi all.
I was listening to the Slate Podcasts (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=75089978&s=143441), and loved their "Worst movies of all time" podcast. One of them has me wantin' to know more, tho...
For the category "Worst Musical of All Time", two of the nominees were "The Apple" and "Can't Stop the Music" -- both VERY worthy candidates which are prominently featured here.
But neither one won.
Instead, it was...
"The Pirate Movie"?
This was made when I was a teen, and I do not even remember it, much less have a read on it. What do you think, loyal Jabootu-ites? Is this a musical that is able to out-stink the Village People and Mr. Boogaloo?
P.S. They voted "Companeros" as the worst western over "Billy the Kid vs. Dracula", and based on the quoted dialog, it is worthy! I just HAVE to check this thing out...

The Pirate Movie is indeed awful, but the worst musical ever has, has, has to be Lost Horizon.
BM: I should have mentioned this at the beginning. I solve my problems with violence. |

Lost Horizon does indeed suck hard, but the abotively posilutely worst musical of all time has got to be At Long Last Love. |

The Pirate Movie uses Gilbert And Sullivan as source material, which either A) redeems it somewhat, or B) makes it even more blasphemous, depending on your point of view. I would have to vote for Can't Stop The Music as technically the worst musical film ever, though the musical I personally hate the most is Oliver!! It's bad when even a drunk Oliver Reed can't make me like something.
I want to make a Broadway musical out of Eraserhead. Starring Nathan Lane. That would be sweet. |

The show was baaad, but the movie had Clint Eastwood singing.
No, this is not an internet-rumor:
CLINT EASTWOOD SINGS.
Enough to make you chew your own foot off. |

I like Xanadu *g* It's the most campy fun of that late 70's/early 80's crop of stuff. I can actually get through it, unlike Sgt. Pepper and Can't Stop The Music. I've never seen The Apple- it has been on my "to track down" list for years.
You know a musical I hate (here comes a flame war): Sound Of Music. Seriously. The songs are awful, the kids are annoying, the story is contrived silliness that has almost nothing to do with the real story. Only the sheer talent of Julie Andrews redeems it somewhat. On the other hand, classic musicals I like are Music Man, My Fair Lady and Fiddler On The Roof. it's such a subjective thing. |

Sardu....i gotta join your band, buddy. In fact, i could only take the MAD Magazine version," The sound of money." Has anyone else ever thought that a show made up of MAD musicals would work? The "Star Wars musical", where they saw the future with the line where Luke suspects Leia is hia sister,is comedy gold!
"Cole, stop handing Dr. Doom the Keys to the Baxter building." Brent Sienna/PvP.

How about this legendary travesty - a musical starring no leads who could sing or dance staged by a director who refused to allow post-production dubbing?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072665/
Somebody with pull on this project has obviously ordered all available home video version confiscated and destroyed.

Does Rhinestone count? That's the one where Sly Stallone tries to sing country music with Dolly Parton right?

Drinkenstein!!!
What an entertainingly awful movie- I've probably seen it too many times for my own good back when it was playing endlessly on cable TV. Ken mentions it in his B-Fest review, though he is apparently not as easily entertained as I am. Maybe you have to see it a couple of times before it gets good to you.
