I think I've asked this before, and I honestly don't recall the answer: has there ever been a GOOD movie made from a video game? I don't mean "good" as in "eh, not bad," but an actual *good* movie and/or giant financial success. You know, something whereby producers would say, "Wow, we should make more of these."
(I'd put Resident Evil and Tomb Raider in the "dumb but fun" category--I certainly wouldn't say either was a movie of quality and distinction.)
Given that, I still wonder why these adaptations keep getting made. Overseas markets can't be the only reason... |

| I'd say both Final Fantasy and the first Resident Evil were good films. However, they probably are the only videogame adaptations that took the game as a starting concept and then developed a whole new story. I thin that's telling. Videogame "adaptations" should follow that path. |

| Dammit, I was hoping that Silent Hill would be a "Wow we should make more of these" type of movie (and for the first half, it got in the ballpark). You can imagine my disappointment when that movie went kerplunk in its second half. Now, if they made Silent Hill 2 right, we'd have something. (It's much more a psychological horror story than the first one.) |
