LOL I had completely forgotten how bad this series is, but there's this new channel at home, TD8, and while they build a regular TV schedule they're using this Lorenzo Lamas TV-series as filler.
Bad, bad idea. It's the lamest show I can think of, Lorenzo lamas plays the improbably named Reno Raynes, a cop who is framed and spends the series being a Renegade, which in Stephen J. Cannel's book means drive a Harley agains the sunset, wear shampooed long hair and shave every three days.
Oh, and he also wanders through cheap or poorly lit settings (honestly, I've seen better cinematography in porn movies), fights lame villains with poor-man's kung-fu and executes PG violence, except when he crosses swords with the villain of the show, played with laughable intensity with Stephen J. Cannel himself. in this cases, they just interchange witless dialogue and call it a draw, so the whole thing keeps going.
Yawn. |

The thing I always loved most about this show was the opening credits monologue detailing how how Lamas became The Renegade. ("He was a cop, and good at his job...")
It was insanely detailed and ran, if I remember this correctly, about 17 minutes. Thus, minus several long syndiated commercial breaks, each episode only need roughly 12 minutes of new 'plot' each week.
The only way it could have been better would have been if The Monologue had been delivered by The Hitchhiker.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court? HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

And written by Douglas Adams! I can just see it now. A disgraced British cop on a classic BSA cycle, wearing a frayed nightgown, and carrying a flask of something almost, but not entirely, unlike Tea. And his motercycle is a billion times more intelligint then he is, and has no problim telling him so!....wait...i just dragged in the plots from Knightrider and Warrior of the lost world!....help meeeee!...

The funny thing is I ADORE that intro. It's cheesy as hell, and the music is so cliched that I'm sure it will someday appear on a chips ad, but it does a brilliant job of preparing the viewer about the images that follow. in that sense, it's a terrific job.
And now, courtesy of MetaCafe (hey, we're like YouTube but with porn), the complete intro for the show.

Don't thank me Ken ;) |
