There's a documentary called "Junket Whore" while essentially examines the same thing. I found it fairly interesting, but I think anyone who is unaware of how tightly coupled the movie industry is with those reviewing said movies is probably part of the target demographic for many of the movies on Jabootu. Many of the reviewers are paid by the same companies that are producing what they're reviewing.

I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Jimmy James calls it "synergy". Mainly because the concept of "taste" is such an ethereal thing that I don't think movie criticism will ever be a viable method of figuring out whether or not a person will like a movie.

Just plain sad. I know movie critics are not much popular on these sites (except maybe Ebert), but I find movie criticism very appealing when it's done right. I hate the insipid, slightly laudatory pieces junkets seem to promote.

Junkets like this, though, are probably small potatoes compared to what goes on in Washington (and other national capitals)these days. You know, like Senators who get paid trips to the Bahamas for "fact finding" missions.

Yeah, but that is nowhere as important as this. We're talking of the entertainment of millions of people around the world, innocent people who may watch a bad movie just because the critic whose review is printed on the cover was awarded a bathtub with water splashing from the ceiling.

Time to take my medication.
