According to today (8/14) at the IMDB celebrity news, Madonna is going to give up her film career.
I mean, the punchlines just write themselves, don't they? |

| I don't want to play Devil's advocate here, but she doesn't suck as much as that (no pun intended). It's just that she made some of the worst film choices ever. And that she also personally impulsed many of her major turds doesn't exactly help to defend her case. |

That's actually true. Just look at Traci Lords. I liked her in "Cry Baby" (John Waters). I won't remark about some of her other film choices.

She got good notices in Desperately Seeking Susan for basically playing herself, and she really didn't even do that very well. AFAIK she's pretty well sucked in everything else she's been in. I would never attempt to watch Evita so I really don't know about that one.

It is as if the very foundation of reality is crashing down upon us.
FIRST, Rob Schneider REFUSES, refuses I say, to work with Mel Gibson on any upcoming projects.
Plans for "Mad Max: The Edge of the World", with Rob Schneider playing a ruthless, sadistic leader of a city of cutthroats, had to be scrapped and re-written for second choice, David Spade.
Now THIS? No more gems from Madonna?
What more could possibly go wrong?
Hey, anybody catch that news item awhile back where Madonna scolded a man in the audience of one of her concerts for not dancing and acting like he was having a good time?
My first thought was, "There were men at the concert? Why? Was the episode of 'Mail Call' a rerun that night or something?" |

That's not something that just happens, though. That's obviously due to pressure from The Man.

Madonna giving up her "movie" "career" is just the first step towards her inevitable appearance on The Surreal Life where she'll get into either a fistfight with Janice Dickinson or a relationship with Bronson Pinchot.
Or reverse those. Or both of them. GAH MY EYES!

| One imagines this "retirement" will probably be like one of David Bowie's, ie, not much of one. I can practically see the quote now: "I'd given up my career as a movie star, but when this part came along, I just couldn't pass this project by." |

Now, now... Madge actually did a very credible job as Evita.
I mean, think about it:
She had to play a person who was pamered, run by her staff, and just needed to look pretty, act sexually, and oh yeah sing once in a while.
Yeah, she had to dig REAL deep for that stuff...
Seriously, it is easily the best movie she ever made, and she is not an embarrassment in it. I make no similar claims for Body of Evidence, however...

When Madonna "reinvents" herself again, she'll probably do it as a film star. Otherwise, what good is "reinventing" yourself?

You call that a film career? Thats like William Shatner saying he is giving up his singing career.

Madonna should reinvent herself as a door-stop.
