| I'm surprised John Landis isn't on that list. |

He sort of reedmed himself in my eyes with his episode of "Masters of Horror", but I still have nightmares about "Beverly Hills Cop III".
John Woo should be there too. |

I think Cracked died off as part of the big comic book industry crash on the mid 90's and is only being ressurected now. Judging from that article, they seem a little more mature than I rember from my teen years. I remember them as a low-rent Mad with drawings of really, really pneumatic women. |

| Hmm... if that's true, governor_breck, then I smell a comeback for Crazy and Sick. Am I right or am I right? |

Let's not forget Plop!
I got a laugh out of the article. It's been said before numerous times, but: "A hedonistic creature, the George Lucas works only to please himself and is egotistical enough to trust his own misguided instinct and ignore his admirers. This has resulted in missteps such as Jar Jar Binks, Ewoks and The 30th Re-Release of Star Wars With More CGI than Ever Before!!!!! The George Lucas shows no signs of slowing in his pursuit of material gain while pissing off his fans." -is funny 'cause it's true.

| Wow, someone else remembers Crazy. (That was Marvel's entry into the Mad arena.) |

| Was Crazy the one whose mascot was a decrepit old janitor type? Or maybe he was a cigar-chomping clown? One or the other. |

As I recall, Cracked magazine had the "janitor" mascot (Sylvester P. Smythe ) and the sexy gal articles by Bill Ward and the crazy work of Don Martin after he jumped ship from Mad and was mostly edited by Bill Severin (from the old E.C. Comics/Mad artists group). Sick magazine I have very few memories of (I preferred Marvel's Not Brand Ecchh!, personally).

Sort of like NatLamp and Harvey comics, I believe--they turn out issues to keep the copyrights and trademarks current.
Great article.
The M. Night Shyamalan is indeed a clever creature. He alone, among all others, is able to pull a plot out of thin air and get away with it. A skilled con-artist, he leads his prey into a story in which he makes up all the rules. There is no logic, there are no boundaries and there is nothing between his bizarre imagination and reality. However, being the crafty creature he is, he leads all of his arbitrary nonsensical plot pieces to a big, huge, “mind blowing” twist ending.
Bulls-eye!

| Crazy's mascot was a big-nosed guy in a large floppy hat and black raincoat. "Nondescript" described him best. Sylvester P. Smyth (Cracked) was dressed like a painter or janitor. Sick's mascot...well, no one ever bought an issue of Sick, so I guess I can tell you that Sick's mascot was Stephen King before he hit the big time. He doesn't like to talk about it, so if you ever interview him, don't ask, trust me. |

I actually bought two issues of Sick and I can't remember the mascot either.
I do remember that the editors of Sick did a complete overhaul of the mag halfway through its run. The early issues were geared more toward the Cracked crowd, but the later ones were soft-core, with lots of nude women romping about. Presumably, they were reaching for the National Lampoon demographic, but they failed to capture that market either. |

The mascot for Sick was Huckleberry Fink.
Does anybody remember the automobile-themed comic magazine CARtoons and its sister publications Hot Rod CARtoons, SURFtoons, and SKItoons? To this day, I know nothing at all about cars and sports, but I enjoyed these magazines.

I can just remember Sylvester Smythe and Cracked. All I remember about Sick is that my brother brought it home ONCE and my mother, who loved Mad, told him she didn't want to see it in the house again.

CRACKED. Yeah, i remember them and 'ol Sylvester P. Smythe. No Alfred E. though. Remember when Cracked created a running character, the Talking Blob? It started in a parody of the original Blob, and when last seen, was escaping the toon page, and eating the artist! Insasable hunger AND snappy insults! Suckers!
