It sounds like Eragon is following in the fine footsteps of Dungeons and Dragons. In fact, at Rottentomatoes.com, it's exactly matching the Fresh rating of 11% that D&D received.
Ahhh. This is just my cup of tea. I know a lot of you here love the cheesy horror movies, but campy fantasy appeals a lot more to me.
Finally, to quote the ever-quotable Walter Chaw at http://filmfreakcentral.net/screenreviews/eragon.htm
quote: Fears that veteran F/X man Stefen Fangmeier's directorial debut Eragon, a feature-length adaptation of a fifteen-year-old trying on Anne McCaffrey's jodhpurs, would be the sequel to Dragonheart nobody wanted prove unwarranted, as Eragon is actually the sequel to BloodRayne that nobody wanted.

The trailers look awful.
[movie guy] Come witness the movie event.. of the YEAR!!! [/movie guy]
Yeah, right. It did give the guys on American Chopper an excuse to build a really sweet bike though.
BTW, your link has an extraneous comma at the end.

Ah, yes, the ERAGON bike! Nice ride, even to a guy who never learned to ride a bycicle. But, man...ya know, the films title...it reminds me of the Aragon ballroom. Thats the place Lawrence Welk started his show. It make me wanna quote the Stan Freberg routine, "Wunnerful, Wunnerful." "Anda now, tank you for all dose cards and letters , from you folks, out dere in tele-vision landt." "Please, turn off de bubbles..." Sorry, movie, but if i see you, the Welk-isims will flow!

My apologies to Ben Kingsley. Jeremy Irons deserves Jabootu Sainthood.

It's weird.
Most of the reviews in Rotten tomattos are asking where Chewbacca is. |

Why's everybody looking at me? I'm not touching this one, nor anymore sword n' sorcery movies. I'm having a hard enough time getting through my current review in time for the grand return of Jabootu in 2007.

Interestingly, the bad comments on Rotten Tomatoes don't say it's necessarily bad, only a rehash of stuff we've already seen. Being based on a book written by a 15-year-old, if he can re that hash well enough, I don't mind. But we'll see as I'm likely to get dragged to this one.
Interesting review, Foy. It appears the RT consensus is right, for the most part. A fair-to mediocre film is dragged down by the pure cliche of the thing.
I do not have hopes for my fantasy story idea. |
