Die Hard Lethal Weapon Night of the Comet
Y'all know what I'm talking about. Surprisingly, I realized recently that Ronin takes place during Yuletide. You wouldn't know it except for one dialogue exchange between Robert DeNiro and Jean Reno.
"Helluva time to be working, huh? What do you want for Christmas?"
Other faves?

The Ref Eyes Wide Shut A Midnight Clear Rocky ends on New Year's Eve, but most of the movie takes place between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Rocky IV (Ugh.)
BTW, there are a few more references to Christmas in Ronin. You see a few scenes where decorations are being put up in a hotel, and we hear a church choir singing outdoors at one point. |

Silent Night starring Steven Berkoff. A BBC TV movie about a man spending Christmas alone. "TV to slit your wrists by" said one critic.
Also, since we have mentioned Frankenheimer, let's not forget Reindeer Games

| Gremlins is quite an obvious one, it even has several anti-Christmas instances of dialogue. I also remember To live and die in L.A., which must be one of the darkest, more violent thrillers ever, being set around Christmas, but there's no decoration nor dialogue lines referring to it, just on-screen text with the dates. |

Neville's right about To Live And Die In L.A.. The main character's partner is killed on Christmas Eve. Personally, I think William Friedkin screwed up, not having any mention of Christmas or New Year's. Good movie, though (and Neville's right about it being very dark and violent).
This one's kind of a cheat, but I'll throw in one of my most favoritest movies of all time, The Black Hole. (Please don't laugh. Don't laugh!! Sigh. Oh, all right, laugh, ya sadists.) I read the storybook and the novelization, and the first few pages of the screenplay, and The Black Hole took place on Christmas Eve. Most of that was cut from the final film, but there are a couple of scenes where one character mentions "Christmas morning." |

I"ve got this image of Gene Hackman dressed as Santa chasing some criminal type -- was that in THE FRENCH CONNECTION? Maybe I'm just imagining it...

Yes it was. It ended with the famous "picking your feet in Poukeepsie" confrontation. |

| I never saw The Long Kiss Goodnight all the way through, but I read the script, and it took place around Christmas. Can anyone confirm if that made it into the movie? IMO, if the movie stuck closely to the script, it was a nice big lump of coal. |

| THE LION IN WINTER is set at Christmas time, and the Plantagenets spend most of their time trying to find out if they're going to "hang the ivy or each other." |

The Fleischer short, Peace on Earth and of course Lion in Winter are my favorite anti-Christmas films.
