| I Tivo'ed this movie last Sunday and finally watched it today. I have to say, it wasn't that bad. Lord knows it wasn't good. But I was expecting something a lot worse from all the negative buzz. It had some really cool ideas, like the whole flat space thing, which some had snarked on. (Had Star Wars bombed, these people would have snarked on the concept of lightsabres and pointed out the Millenium Falcon is shaped like a toilet seat. But the movie was good, so those things are cool. Ultraviolet wasn't good, so it's weird ideas are not cool. Please...) What was really, really wrong with this movie is that it kept throwing things at you. Stunts, visual effect, weird camera angles, and-- god help them-- plot twists. With so much stuff coming at you, it's nearly impossible for the average person to keep up. It's a failing of the film's pacing. Outrageous plot twists come from out of nowhere and we're given no time to recover to be ready for the next twist. It's easy to miss something and then stuff don't make no darn sense. After a while, you just stop trying. Before you, you realise those dirty dishes aren't going to clean themselves. It is true what they say, if every moment shouts, the audience goes deaf. Ultraviolet shouts every moment. Aside from that, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. |

Its not jsut the insane story and the crazy camera angles and the pointless stunts. All the CGI looks washed out, as if its only half done or a demonstration that they just left in because tehy were running out of money or time. Thats real annoying. The girl is real good looking though.

I'm sorry, Chad, I'm afraid I can't do that. This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
I am completely operational, and all my systems are functioning ferpectly. |

2001 would have been so much better if it had taken a page out of ULTRAVIOLET's playbook by having those monkeys battle each other with the bones doing wire fu. That Kubrick did not think to include such a thing back in '69 clearly proves he isn't nearly the visionary director so many try to claim him to be.

You can cut the irony with a knife over there.
Sorry, couldn't resist. |

Perhaps I am insane. But someone else who read my theory pointed out this quote from a CHUD.com interview with one of the HITCHER remake producers:
quote: "Fuller: Right. That’s why we wanted to have that song [Closer] – when he’s in the Trans Am and that song’s on, no matter how you feel about him, at that moment he’s The Terminator and you want him to kill everyone. When he shoots the sheriff, you’re rooting for him. We made a semi-conscious decision midway through that, if you’re not loving Sean Bean by the time he gets to Trans Am, you’ll love him after."
Hmmm... :)

You do realize that was an intentional missteak, right? *g*
By the way, Scott, I wouldn't be surprised if your theory turned out to be true. It'd be business as usual for Michael Bay to pull something like that.
But you're still insane. *goofy g* |
