Rewatching Tremors again it I remembered another reason why it's the best movie ever: it's a Spielberg antidote. There's a scene in which on of the grabboids bursts into survivalists Burt and Heather's (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) underground weapon's room, and in an extended scene they proceed to kill it with every type of gun known to man:

"I guess we don't get to make fun of Burt's lifestyle anyone."
It's even Burt who saves the day at the end by making little gunpowder bombs.

I've commented to a friend that all the Tremors movies are what Jurassic Park should've been.
Now, imagine how awful a zombie movie made by Spielberg would be if he took his PG-13 "Nickelodeon" movie mentality to it? |

While its not the greatest movie ever, Tremors really represents what a great B movie should be. It has interesting characters, solid internal logic, and a good story. And yes, it actually shows weapons as being useful tools. Useful tools that are not omnipotent as well. Plus, the graboids weren't created by some evil gov't project or an evil corporation. It doesn't matter how they came to be and ignoring that is a good choice.

Tremors is one of the few movies where the gun-stockpiling survivalists aren't killed.

| The prime gun-piling survivalist nut not only survives but is the only character to appear in all the sequels and spinoffs. Given their quality though, I'm not sure if it's an entirely good thing. |

Not only aren't they killed, they're presented as having more than one dimension, and they're able to help the others. |

YES!All true and more! I like the way , when Burt ends up "ungunned", they can still think up a solution. The movie plays fair with the characters. They DO have a chance to survive. I hate movies where the last survivor gets eaten/posessed/whatever, just when you think its all over. Arghhh! And did you notice, the way the series remembers its roots? The picture of Walter Chang over the door of the store, for example.
And, yes, good lines. "And THATS why we're at the top of the food chain!" "Is your head up your ass for the warmth?" "What kind of God would condone such irony?" "I'm a masterpiece of self destrustion." "Ass-blaster blitzkrieg!" "Oh you..you really need to be supervised." Ah, TREMORS...what modern monster movies SHOULD be!

I agree with everything you say, but don't you mean "antidote"? |

The series was set after the 3rd movie.

Yes.
I've pretty much avoided the sequels. Flying grabboids? Oh, hell no. That's even worse than the underwater worms I heard rumored. |

| The sequels are...guilty pleasures. The last one set in the old west was satisfyingly comic. |

Tremors 2 was pretty good for being a direct to video sequel. Tremors 3 is a bit too much like the farting grabboids that use their gas to fly...
