I don't know if this is a local thing (Oakland-S.F. area) or national, but it seems like a test market thing where the flavor is not printed on the black bag, just a big white X-13D, and there's a website the muncher can go to to vote for a name for the chips. Without knowing what the flavor is. Bizarre!
Intruiged, I bought a bag this evening and just broke them open. Unless I'm mistaken, they're cheeseburger-flavored. And they really aren't bad.
I went to the site and said they should simply be called "Cheeseburger." But I know that should they go into market blitz, it'll probably be something like "Chompin' Cheeseburger" or "Cheeseburger Explosion," and the ads will be totally loud-ass. Ick.
Still...**munch, crunch, munch**...good chips! |

They went with pizza flavored chips before, so why not? "Cheeseburger Crunch!" sounds like a winner! (You HAVE to have the exclamation point in the name, I insist)

You tasted cheeseburger? I split a small bag with two friends and we all agreed that it was pickle flavored Doritos. Pickles and cheese was all we detected. Given how much I detest the taste of pickles, I wish I'd tasted cheeseburger.

I haven't tried or SEEN them, I just think that a cheeseburger chip would be good.

I don't see how you could ever have a better name than Doritos X-13D. It sounds like a 50's space movie!

My immediate boss tasted shrimp. When I told her I tasted cheeseburger, she tried another one and said that yeah, cheeseburger seemed closer.
As for pickles, the Lays Dill Pickle-flavored chips are gooder than s**t. Those are grubbin'!

| Here in Japan, Frito-Lay/Doritos markets a line of corn chips in conjunction with a pizza delivery company called Pizza-La. They have all kinds of interesting pizza topping combinations. Right now I'm munching on "Fresh Basil and Smoked Fresh Ham Italiana" -flavored chips. Quite addictive really, but a bit greasy to the touch. |

| I never find that chips rarely taste anything like what they are named after. Obviously salt and vinegar tastes like salt and vinegar but chicken flavoured chips taste nothing like chicken, cheese and onion chips taste little like their namesake and so on. As such, I imagine it is quite academic what they end up calling them. Might as well call them Boris Yeltsin flavoured chips. |

Since the phrase "Jumped the Shark" has been kind of worn out as of late maybe it should be replaced by "Stood on the Tank."
