I was reading the Wikipedia article about the X-Files televison series. In it it said that the X-Files was one of the first shows to allow internet influence. The internet became popular just as the series started to get off the ground. And as such, producers were starting to read the message boards they created to see what fans thought about certain episodes. They used this info to guage response and at times correct continuity errors that fans would find.

This leads me to thinking. Can anyone name movies that allowed this type of influence? Has any producer said "I logged on to the internet. Found out that such-and-such a topic/person/event/story was so popular that I had to make a movie about it." And then used fan info to perfect the property. To answer my own question, I would say "HELL NO"

With movies like, Godzilla, Catwoman, Batman & Robin, and Die Another Day, you kind of wonder if producers in Hollywood even cared what fans thought.

Well, I have to believe that the way Jar-Jar went from a central role in Phantom Menace to a virtually non-speaking walk-on in Revenge of the Sith is evidence George was paying attention to reaction on the Internet. And you gotta figure George had seen this:

I think "Snakes on a Plane" qualifies to some degree. Samuel Jackson's famous line was put in because people on the web wanted it; the film was also going to have a title change, but internet pressure stopped that. (At least that I've read.)

In the disappointing Nancy Drew "get a clue" movie, they hired Jenn Fisher who runs a very nice fan site as a "consultant" and used her collection for the opening scene.
I really don't think they listened to her very much, though.

J. Michael Straczynski communicated with Babylon 5 fans all the time, both through the internet and in person at conventions. There was quite a lot of feedback both ways there. He didn't just listen to his viewers, he actively sought them out.

There's even a short Wikipedia page about it:
