A great and much too unappreciated actor. A Man for All Seasons is a great movie, and he carries it on his shoulders. He didn't do a lot of films, sadly, hewing mostly to the stage. Many if not most of his films were Shakespeare and other literary adaptations. He played the French King in my all-time favorite Shakespeare film, Branagh's Henry V. (Branagh, what happened to you?) Modern viewers, meanwhile, will more likely remember him as Ralph Fiennes' father in Quiz Show. I wish I had seen him act on the stage. RIP.

PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court?
HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

For me he'll always be the judge from The crucible and Colonel von Waldheim from Frankenheimer's The train. I've just checked the IMDB and was surprised to see that he had done so much Shakespeare.

May he rest in peace. So far as I know, his one really bad performance was in A DELICATE BALANCE. He mumbled and slopped through it as though his mouth were filled with hot pastrami. Anyone here remember SCORPIO?
