No, not R.O.T.O.R....
We have RTN, the digital version of TV Land, and AIRWOLF is part of the lineup. I am a wingnut. Avation is cool. And Choppers are way cool. Soooo... What Helicopter based films, or chopper scene in flicks spring to mind for youse guys? FIREBIRDS is an obvious one. The best line in Diehard 4..."I can't believe you took out a helicopter with a car!" "I was all outta bullets..."
And there is that David Jansen TV flicks he plays a traffic reporter in Vages, who sees a bank histe, and chases the Alouiett 3 filled with robbers and a hostage in his Hughes 500...and I can't remember the title! D'oh!
Fly low and fast, people...and watch for phone wires.

I also like choppers a lot. The hows and whys on how they even fly are too intrincate for me to understand, but it almost looks like whoever designed those babies did it with cameras in mind.
I'd stick with two obvious choices, Blue thunder and Apocalypse Now. Particularly, the minutes before the village attack on AN are easily the best helicopter footage I've ever seen. Only Black Hawk Down can compare, and they "cheated" by using CGI.
In a not completely unrelated note, I'd love to see more soviet era Hinds in movies. They did appear in a bunch of 80s actioners, but since the soviets wouldn't lend their chopters for, say, Red Dawn, the filmmakers used altered western chopters as stand-ins. Now that the Cold War is over and they are still operative would be a good chance to have some of them in western movies. I have no clue if the Hind is even a good machine, but man, it looks soooooo badass... if they were cars I'd be driving one.

The David Jansen movie was Birds Of Prey. Very good, lots of big band music, which I love.

I've always wanted to see this on the big screen.

Both First Blood Part II and Rambo III, feature knock-off Hinds, yes. And now that I think of it, Blood diamond features a real one towards the very end. |

The helicopters in Capricorn One were pretty creepy and an effective menace to the fugitive astronauts.

THATS the title! Great chase flick. The Hind is so cool. Its a big chopper, the idea being to do both the troop carry of a Huey, and the gun work of a Cobra. Powerfull, but still a big target.

The "Little Nellie" sequince in You Only Live Twice with the Wallis autogyro is pretty good. There was a Matt Helm movie that copied the scene with Dean Martin in an armed Benson Copter.
