We obviously need a new justice system, provisionally named "Hollywood Justice", where awards and achievements can be traded in as literal get-out-of-jail-free cards. May I suggest the following:
Critically acclaimed: Free drugs charge Golden Globe: Free manslaughter Palme d'Or: Free rape or grievous bodily harm Oscar: Free child rape Lifetime achievement Oscar: Free murder |

Wow...just...wow.
Disgusting, yes, but not surprising. Everything I've seen or read about Weinstein tells me that he is a truly sociopathic, mean-spirited, low-down, dirty son of a bitch.... and that he got into a position of wealth and power in Hollywood by being a sociopathic, mean-spirited, low-down, dirty son of a bitch. Is it any wonder that his definition of morality and compassion is truly surreal? |

Am I the only one who thinks about the South Park episode where they talk about the clouds of "smug" emanating from Hollywood.

I note Brett Ratner has signed the petition to save Polanski, too.
I guess maybe because this is the only time in his career Ratner will ever find his name listed alongside Martin Scorsese, Bernardo Bertolucci, Woody Allen, Alexander Payne, Stephen Frears, and Costa-Gavras. |

Sorry for the delay in responding. Just stopped giggling after reading the phrase "Hollywood has the best moral compass."
Best take I've seen so far on this is from another blogger (http://unholyrouleur-jim.blogspot.com/), responding to this link:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/roman-polanski/6245219/Roman-Polanski-backlash-as-Whoopi-Goldberg-says-director-didnt-commit-rape-rape.html
"Interesting. Contrary to what I learned in law school, there are two kinds of sexual assault, rape, and raperape. One of my intellectual and cultural betters explained the other day that only raperape is actually a crime. Which is causing me some cognitive dissonance because I'm reasonably certain that I'd shoot anybody who did that to my mom, sister, wife, or hypothetical drugged and drunk 13 year-old daughter. Of course, I wouldn't get in trouble for shooting the pervert, because I'd only shoot him; it's not like I'd shootshoot him or anything. Y'know, if you are paying any attention, you're forced to ask after a while if Archie Bunker didn't have a good point now and then."
Let's just say that if some letch got my daughter drunk and sodomized her that there would not be a need for an extradition.
On the bright side, that link gives yet another reason to like Luc Besson. You'd almost never know that guy was French.

I remember seeing The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle in the theater (yes, in the theater). Whoopi Goldberg had a cameo as a judge in a scene where Our Heroes were on trial. The punchline was that the judge, who was very near-sighted, flipped when she realized who the defendants were. She immediately dismissed the case, telling the prosecutor, "Don't you know celebrities are above the law?!"
It was amusing then. Seeing Goldberg's statements, it's pretty creepy now. |

Ye gads, Harrison Ford signed. I hope it is just a sign of senility.
Luc Besson's statement was a classic statement of "I like him personally but that doesn't mean he gets to escape the law." I liked it.

| Why should Harrison Ford be a surprise. He cast his "vote" for Polanski long ago when he agreed to star in Frantic. |
