Certain parts have traditionally been played by different actors, whether the Universal monsters (save Larry Talbot), Sherlock Holmes, http://Jabootu.net/?p=2067
Sherlock Holmes does not actually serve as a helpful example, since Universal discontinued its Sherlock Holmes films after Rathbone left. After Rathbone, nobody managed to place Holmes twice in a theatrically released film.
On the other hand, the same production team of the Charlie Chan films that worked with Warner Oland replaced him upon the latter's death. The Tarzan films also had a continual production team that did recast the leads in those films after Johnny Weismuller left. In fact, the Tarzan films still appeared theatrically for roughly twenty years after Weismuller left. |
