I was playing City of Heroes last week as Three Mile Ivan, the radioactive Soviet. I was surrounded by bad guys and was probably going to lose the fight, when a familiar character dropped in literally out of the sky and kicked dudes in the head to save me.
Someone on the site made Billy Jack as a superhero. The hat, vest, bare feet and all. This version can fly, too. I didn't think to ask if the alternate costume of Billy is the bright blue one from TRIAL.
Anyway, it brought a smile to my face and I figured this is the only board likely to know what the heck I'm talking about when I mention it. |

Why would a radioactive soviet be named after Three Mile Island? Isn't Chernobyl the more obvious point of reference?
Or am I thinking too hard about this?

Well, obviously a good Soviet isn't going to mention Chernobyl...
What's his origin story? Raised in a bomb shelter since 1983?

Yes you are because the guy's name is a pun and I guess "Chernobyl Chekov" didn't quite have the same ring. |

I envision it as a nickname that his American teammates gave him that stuck... |

She could be a female atomic soviet superheroine named "Cher Noble".

From Seanbaby's site: "We name you to honor ancient ancestor-spirits as great eagle fly. You now Minnesota President!"
"Cher Noble", good one!

Dr. Chernobyl, The Meltdown, The Human Meltdown, Meltdown, Chernobyl Man and Adam Bomb were all taken by other players. Even I wasn't tactless enough to go with Captain Nagasaki or Hiroshiman.
Three Mile Ivan was a Russian spy assigned to a nuclear research lab; his cover was that he was a janitor there. After the inevitable accident, he got superpowers. Assumed dead in the explosion by his superiors, he assumed the name "Three Mile Ivan" in a characteristic display of the Russian sense of humor. |

I've heard CITY OF HEROES is pretty cool.
I used to play the paper RPG CHAMPIONS, and in one of our campaigns the team 'brick' was Tenpin, the mutant bowler from Taos New Mexico. His schtick was that he was a pro bowler when he wasn't superheroing, and his special attack was to hurl a standard weight bowling pin at Mach 3, causing serious damage.
Me? I love computer games, but don't play them much because I know myself well enough to know that if I did, I'd have even less of a life....
MikeC, Three Mile Ivan.... I like it..... |

I think that's pretty awesome. And it makes perfect sense that he could fly. Would Super Billy Jack be friends with Three Mile Ivan (great name, by the way)? On one hand, he'd like the Russian in order to further international peace and love and stuff, but on the other, Billy Jack hates nuclear power. I forsee a conflicted alliance. When do you get your own comic book? |

Omigosh, I'm laughing SO hard! I play City of Heroes myself, but have not had the occasion to meet the online Billy Jack!
Although I did attempt to make a character that looked like Bruce Campbell's Elvis and tried to name him Bubba Ho-Tep (which I realize is film inaccurate, but work with me). Unsurprisingly, my attempt failed. The name was taken. Any other spelling to force it in would have just been wrong.
My husband and I actually were going to attempt a series of "Bruce Campbell" inspired characters - Bubba Ho-Tep, Ash, etc. I fear these names are not being used for their full comedic value, and it saddens me. *melancholy sigh*
I came, I saw, I was really too tired to deal with it so I just went to bed. |

| Billy Jack was on the Victory server. I'm on there as Three Mile Ivan, Joe Meek, and Archer Fong. Currently I'm trying to get Joe Meek up to level 10; I'm at six and a half now. |

Ah, I play on Protector, with a couple on Justice just because I couldn't stop playing with the costume designs (I am SUCH a girl). Maybe I should look into rolling a Billy Jack on Protector if it's not already taken, mwa ha ha ha ha!

| That's pretty cool. I will, of course, be making a version of Jabootu himself for City of Villains. |
