To be honest, I really don't know that it's all that much more stupid than some of the more "normal" names parents saddle their kids with these days, especially those parents that take a name and spell it differently by substituting or adding a "Y" for whatever reason.
As far as Kal-El goes, I feel bad for the kid; you just know that somewhere down the road, somebody is going to render it Kallie by accident, if not by deliberate intent. If that happens in a school, the kid will never hear the end of it.

I have a good friend whose given name is spelled
Joel, but is pronounced Joe-El.
When his wife was pregnant with their first child,
we really tried to get him to name him Calvin Lawrence,
so he could be legitmately called Cal-L.
Then we were going to get his father to build him a
rocket ship so he could be sent to a planet where he
would become the greatest superhero that world had
ever known, but then he turned around and named him
Michael.

variety of reasons |

Well Kevin Smith's daughter Harley Quinn can rest easy (or feel sad) knowing she doesn't have the dumbest comic book based name anymore. I actually think Harley Quinn is cute, but I'd get an adorable black and white checkered cat to stick that name with, not a child.

Sorry friend, but I have to disagree. "Kal-El" is kind of cool, but then again, he'll have to live up to it when some one points out that it means "Superman"!

I thought I was born in the one place in the world that pronounces Eva "EEE-va" instead of the (apparently) universal "a-VA" until I got down here to Ft. Stockton and found they say it just like they do in West Virginia.

My cousin-in-law is a Cherokee and Named his son "Geeskawnee" (I have no idea how it's spelled). I warned him that even though it may be the greatest name in the world, the kid is going to spend half his life telling pepole how to PRONOUNCE it! With luck, I added, he'll be called "Gee". And to top it off there's no reason he couldn't have named the kid Clark, Kent, or Cal. That way he could have gotten his geek on and wouldn't have to worry about the kid stabbing him in the eyes as he sleeps when he gets older.
