The geriatric comedy genius is back to bust some heads in Trial by Fire. Definitely too good for this crowd to pass up.

I want to see it! I've already imagined some of the key scenes: C.D's corpse is dup up once again so Noble Willingham can provide a cameo role as a zombie, and ancient west's Walker alter ego kicks the bucket in the Alamo, after outliving both Jim Bowie and David crockett.

Ah, Walker. My family has a small, if fiery, connection to the show.

During one of the last seasons of the TV show, the producers bought a house in Arlington that my mom & grandparents lived in for a long, long time (they had long since sold it, of course), and blew it up. Being there with the family as our old house got annihilated on national television is one of the small joys I will never forget. :D

Stuff like this is why I started shifting my focus back to anime. Now you can get complete series cheap (I just bought Silent Mobious, 600+hrs, for 20 bucks at Best Buy), and while Anime has its own share of repetition (why, oh why must every other story include the 'tournament' story arc'??) there's a higher percentage of originality than in most USA stuff these days. Plus I got a soft spot for weird fiction, and lets be fair - anime, no matter how conventional the story, almost always has a weird element.

Mind you, I'm a huge book nerd; over 2k in books in my bedroom alone. And I try to watch everything I can (when I worked in a grocery store movie department, I rented a half dozen movies every weekend and watched 'em all). But lately, movies have been more bland to me. Maybe it's cause they're copies of copies of copies, or because style wins over substance, but each year there are less movies that make me go to the theatres.

Its also novels; the quality of fiction being published these days seems more like the 21st century version of the pulp novels of the 30's. Heck, lately the novels I've bought have had more than a few spelling errors, when they weren't just outright horrible.

Personally, I think everything comes and goes in waves; something gets too popular, rots away from the inside, then gets neglected, and new flowers sprout from the rot. A circle of life in fiction, if you will.

A friend of mine here in Chicago was actually watching the Walker flick (and switching back to the Sox game to see what was up). This is what he told me: first Walker started an hour late, and then, 15 minutes before it was over, the local CBS affiliate decided to pre-empt the rest of the show with news about the White Sox winning, and instead of seeing the end of Walker, whoever had just invested the better part of two hours in the show were treated to the sight of some idiot sports reporters instead of the end of their show(I was wasn't watching anything at the time, so don't know exactly what the sports guys were doing).

If somebody is watching Walker instead of baseball, maybe they just happen to be more interested in Walker than the baseball -- so why pre-empt the show with something they don't care about?

I have a cousin who looks almost *exactly* like Chuck Norris, BTW.
