According to Amazon, this is going to be released on DVD next week, on the 25th. I've never seen it, but I understand it practically defines Jabootuism.

I saw it back when it was first telecast. I never followed music much, and was surprised when KISS robots were programmed to sing a song entitled something like 'Rip, rip, rip and destroy!' and everybody was weirded out. From the look of them, I thought that was the sort of music they actually played.
I was therefore shocked when they broke into the ballad 'Beth', too, since it seemed sort of a girly song for guys in kabuki attire.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court? HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

Oh, yes, this film definitely deserves Ken's masterful, loving touch. You could do a nugget just on the insipid opening credits sequence alone.

KreenWarior--I assume you mean the director's cut of Kiss Saves Santa. The broadcast version blew.

Well, of course. The commentary is what makes it really worthwhile.

This pains med as a long-time KISS-fan, but "KISS meets the phantom of the park" is an excellent illustration to why rock stars should be rock stars and not actors. It's a movie that makes Madonna say "Why don't they leave acting to professionals"?

I saw this on TV about ten years ago. I remember rolling my eyes and thinking, "Okay, who's been smoking what, and how much?" My favorite moment came when the camera panned across the audience... and one of the fans gave the camera the finger! Full view! How did that get through in the late 70's???

Probably thought the finger meant "We're Number One!"

Peter Criss was so drunk during the filming that they had to dub some of his lines.

Ace Frehley was so drunk during the filming they hired an actor to double for him in several shots while Frehley was passed out in his trailer.

I'd be as drunk as Criss and Frehley, but I was 7 when this thing first came on TV. (Really, couldja blame them for getting drunk on the set?)

If memory serves, that was actually "Hot, hot, hotter than hell," with different lyrics for TV. |

"Hotter Than Hell" was the original Kiss song (about some attractive woman or some such). When the KissBots took the stage in _KMtPotP_ the lyrics were changed to 'rip and destroy' as part of the evil plan to ... do ... something. The fact that I can't remember exactly what the nefarious plan was only slightly mitigates the fact that I know a few Kiss songs.
Just about the only other moment I remember from _KMtPotP_ was when one of the band members caught the eye of Random Female Character#2 and said something (in a strangly modulated voice) like : "Starchild! You are searching for someone, but it is not Kiss?".
Yeah, so glad these are the cinematic moments which stick with me.

I think it was a plot to take over the world using the power of... KISS. You see, according to the mythos, they got their powers from weird medallions and...well, there's a comic book from Marvel. It's actually quite good; not strange considering that Gene Simmons is a huge comics fan and quite intelligent. Alas, he is not quite as good an actor or a script writer.

There is a persistant rumor in SF fandom that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were attendees at NYCON (the last World SF Convention held in New York City) in 1968, and their experiences there inspired them to form their band.
Then again, people believe Oswald was a patsy for the mob, so take it as you will....
