By Ken's own request: This month we examine Oasis of the Zombies. Warning: this film may cause drowsiness. Do not attempt to operate heavey machinery while watching this film.

Nice review!

However, "ordinary citizens construct Molotov cocktails from rudimentary ingredients."

Gas, bottle, rag. Is there anyone who _doesn't_ know how to make a Molotov?

It isn't a matter of whether they are difficult to make. It is a matter of why it always occurs to people to make them in zombie films as opposed to any other plan of action, and why the necessary ingredients are always readily available. They just happened to have some bottles with them in the jeep and some old rags. No one had to tear up any of their clothing to get the rags - though that would have been an excellent opportunity for some more female nudity. With this film in particular I might add -- what kind of school teaches kids how to make improvised bombs?

The quote doesn't say they were taught it, just that they did it in school. Perhaps they had very spirited pep-rallies.

Makeing a firebomb is easy. Makeing a firebomb that is WORTH THE EFFORT is hard. A rag stuck in a bottle of gasoline is almost as dangerous to the user as it is the target.

By the way, it was named after the Soviet forign minister who calimed that their air force was dropping FOOD on Finnland. The Finns called the bombs "More breadbaskets from Molitov".

"The Queen is testing poisons." CLEOPATRA, 1935

Hmm. Well, if I had my druthers, I'd be the one throwing it.

Just how flammable is the average zombie, anyhoo?
And how hot does the fire have to be, to cause an immediate halt to the attack? Is there a "Tissue evaporation index" for this?

What I really, really, like about Gangrene's zombie reviews is the checklist that caps them off. They have defined the standard against which all zombie (really all cheesy unkillable monster) movies should be judged and presented it in an impartial format. Genius, sheer genius.
