Actual this makes sense. Network was about live TV. Paddy Chayefsky got his start doing live TV in the 50s and felt that it was a Golden Age. Clooney likes 50s live TV: Fail Safe, his dad and Good Night and Good Luck. And he apparently didn't change much of the script (though this was in another report). I'm not to sure if it will be period though.
Thoughts? But I wonder what they'll do about the swearing... |

Hmm. It doesn't seem to me that Network is something that would lend itself very easily to live TV. The "presidential debate" episode, sure; that's a natural. Fail-Safe I can see, since it would mostly be limited to a few sets. But Network was a very "cinematic" movie, with lots of set changes and other things that would be difficult to do on live TV. (Unless they change the script a lot.)
Reality is a crutch for people who can't face up to science fiction. |

Network was dialoge-heavy, and it had several long scenes, most of them indoors, all of which would lend itself toward live TV. But I'm leaning more toward Victoria's opinion; I haven't seen Network in a while, but I remember it had several exterior scenes and a lot of scene changes, which would make a live broadcast very difficult. That was a problem with Fail-Safe: whenever they needed exterior shots or special effects, they would transition to scratchy old black-and-white footage, which nearly ruined an otherwise excellent movie.
If Clooney and company can find a way to do it withouth destroying the script more power to 'em. But it won't be east. |
