Reading one of my son's Christmas presents last night and stumbled across this disturbing image:

In context, it's even creepier:

"Even Sir Topham Hatt is ready [for something special]. Ready for what? Children -- on a school trip!"

If they ever make a sequel to Hostel, that guy in the top hat is the killer.

So Bobby Hill grows up to be a robber baron?

Who knew?

We had the same thought....should we be afraid, very afraid...or is this just an unavoidable conclusion?

I look at him and just think "Batman villain". Called the Toff or the Gentleman or something similar.

Either that or the Fat Controller hangs around Thomas for more than just the trains...

It's probably because of the cherubic face.

But, just as a test, look over at the kid with her arms around her colleagues.

If your first thought was "Hey, it's a young Sally Forth", then fear is justified.

My first thought upon seeing that picture was "Did the French remake 'Battle Royale'?"

"Hi, I'm Bob Evil!"

For anime/manga fans, the uniforms the kids are wearing are very similar to what the students wear in Negima. (available along with a lot of other animes at www.fansub.tv if anyones interested- and they only post items not licensed yet for the western world).

The creepiest kids book I ever remember reading, well I don't remember the name, but it revolved around the concept that if you read to an inanimate object long enough, it would come alive with a personality shaped around what you read to it.
So the main character, an orphan girl, reads adventure books to a doll, which comes to life and leads her off to find her missing father, sailing the seven seas (its a colonial period kind of book). The first mate was a pair of sailors long underwear that the bible was read to repeatedly, so he becomes obsessed with numerology and tries to kill the father, thinking he's the antichrist (in part because they find him covered with gold jewelry rising from the water).

That's all I remember, other than it was a very large hardcover book. for a childrens book. Probably 500+ pages. Don't remember if there was artwork though

Bah Weep Granna Weep Ninny Bahn - Universal Greeting

Est Solarus Oth Mithas - Solamnic Knight Pledge

And now its me too:

Not surprising since it is set in England. The Island of Sodor is a rather silly British-specific joke. There is an Island of Man in the district of Sodor and Man, which makes every child, when they first learn of it, ask "So where is the Island of Sodor." (The proper response is "No, Man is an island.")

The fake maps in the Thomas books even draw it as a largish island bridging the gap between Furness and Man (with a railroad bridge, as proven when Gordon travels to London -- complete with a punchline that went so far over my kid's heads that it hit a passing plane).

My son is very into Thomas and we've read all the original Rev. Audrey books. The new stuff is so much lower quality (as shown above) it's difficult to describe.

Oh, and don't get me started on the differences between the railroad plans in the books and the nonsensical layouts shown in the TV series/movie.

GAHHHHH! Hell bound train of doomed children! The train is evil, and the engineer is Satan! What does the train use for fuel? Don't ask!
