Oh, just seen it now. It's that legendary SNL skit, had heard of it before but never seen it myself. Great stuff.

| I saw it when it first aired. I remember Shatner's opening monologue. He ended it by saying, "I hope Star Trek fans really good sports. If they aren't... I'm in big trouble!" Then went directly into the Get-A-Life sketch. I couldn't appreciate as much as I can now, but I was laughing hard that night. |

I saw it when it first aired too. Hanging out with some college friends who were big Star Trek fans too. They loved it.
Of course, now I hang out with a Star Trek fan so extreme he painted his sailboat to look like a warp nacelle. And yeah, he still thinks it's one of the best SNL skits.

I know you didn't mean it but your link help me solve one of the many obscure references in the cartoon "Family Guy". In that cartoon, Stewie was smoking a cigarette and doing Rocket Man. |

Despite Mr. Shatner's "interpretation", I still have no idea what that song means.
Was that serious? I showed that clip to my parents and they refused to believe that it wasn't some kind of comedy sketch. |
