Track of the Moonbeast was my first choice. It's hilarious with or without the MST3K commentary.

Also have to cast my vote for Squirm.

Somebody explain to me again, why was MST3K taken off the air?

I am hoping that they will put that ep on DVD soon. I have not seen it in about a year, and I am starting to forget.

Tom Servo: Meteorite? I'd say you are meteor-WRONG! (LOL i love that line!)

The reason always given is, of course, ratings. But I've never seen any actual numbers from anyone at Sci-Fi Channel, Showtime Networks or Best Brains.

I've also heard it hinted that, after 10 years - more if we count the intermission between seasons 7 and 8 - the whole cast and crew was just sick of it. I can't confirm or deny this, though.

Misc notes:

(1) TRACK OF THE MOON BEAST is available in its un-MSTied glory on one of those Brentwood cheapie DVD sets.

(2) I believe that PRINCE OF SPACE is some kind of re-cut of the Japanese series YUSEI OJI (1959), some of which is available on a 2-volume set from Image/Something Weird.

(3) It broke my heart that MST couldn't have a go at the jaw-dropping OCTAMAN (1971). Have you seen this thing? Jabootu wept.

Oh, Octaman is definitely a Z-movie classic. Another movie I wish had received the MST3K treatment (but never got it) was Voyage into Space, a direct-to-TV (in the US) feature edited from the Japanese Johnny Sokko TV series. Absolutely hysterical, a great movie to sit around and poke fun at with the gang.

If my MST lore is accurate, the show's ratings fell significantly in its last couple years on Comedy Central, due to a combination of constantly juggling time slots and an abject disregard for the show's fans. It's ratings on the Sci-Fi Channel were good throughout its entire run, but though the cast and crew weren't sick of doing the show per se, they decided ten years was enough - it was best to quit while they were ahead and move on to other projects (presumably so they wouldn't one day get sick of it and ruin it).

All Time Favorite MST3K Episodes:

POD PEOPLE ("She's zestfully dead!")
CAVE DWELLERS (my first MST)
OPERATION DOUBLE 007
ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE
BOGGY CREEK II
GAMERA VS. ZIGRA
PRINCE OF SPACE
TIME CHASERS
WEREWOLF
THE FINAL SACRIFICE

And if there's one movie that really should have been MST'd it would be SUPERSONIC MAN. If you think PUMA MAN was something, this one is a zillion times cheesier.

Yeah--I just saw Boggy Creek 2 last night ("look! Its the tomb of the unknown cracker!") My fave part was the bots closing segment, (Crow setting fire to a bridge, Tom Servo laying in the hay pretending to be the little creature!

I split my faves into two because there really were two kinds of MST goodness: Movies that so entertainingly awful in their own right that you could readily enjoy the un-MST version (Fugitive Alien, Cave Dwellers, Moon Beast, etc.) and those which are practically unwatchable without the MSTie treatment (Coleman Francis films, etc.)

What really frosts my flakes is how many great MST episodes will NEVER get Rhino DVD releases because of rights issues. We can pretty much kiss the entire Sandy Frank collection off, as well as Amazing Colossal Man and (just recently pulled) Beginning of the End.

Between MST-DAP and VHS tapes, I have 'em all, but I hate to think of newer fans missing out. This, among other reasons, is why I harangue my fellow MST fans to digitize their tape collections or at least make reliable backups of whatever they've got. Consumer-grade VHS tapes are not a very good backup medium, alas.

It's a real shame that MST3K never got their hands on any of the various Bigfoot films of the 70s as they would have made for primo episodes.

And I'd love to see an MST3K DVD of MITCHELL with an Joe Don Baker doing a commentary track on their riffing.

What really suprises me is that they never did "The Giant Claw!" That has to be the worst monster movie ever made!
