I know this guy wasn't the biggest name in Hollywood. But it a personal thing for me because he directed my favorite movie; "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." I love that film. I'll glad he stuck around long enough to do the documentary for the DVD release.

Now I did say that he wasn't a big name. But he sure did get his licks in. If you look at his resume, you'll see he definately made his mark before he quit this world.

I agree- he may have wound up doing some Jabootu-worthy fare, but he did some of my favorite movies- 20,000 Leagues, The Vikings, Tora! Tora! Tora! and Fantastic Voyage. And how can you noe like Conan The Destroyer??

I just watched "Compulsion" two days ago.

Great movie and one of the most superb "closing arguments" ever delivered in a courtroom drama... also, the best of the 3 movies made about the Leopold / Loeb case, IMHO.

Whatever his sins to the world of cinema in the 80s, Fleischer made some great films as well... kinda like John Frankenheimer.

Yet another underrated director. While he has a long list of turkeys on his resume (nobody who has worked for Dino De Laurentiis haasn't), while he was backed up by decent studios he produced really good stuff.

It seems like a constant in directors of this period (the so-called TV generation), that they made wonderful jobs while working for big studios, but when they became freelance they lost their way. Frankenheimer and Sidney Lumet are other two good examples. The first, at least, received some critical appraisal before his death, because of Ronin and his excellent TV work. Let's forget that Ben Affleck thriller, shall we?
