Those who'd read the review of the first Dungeons & Dragons movie(or worse, saw it) know that Mr. Solomon is hardly a director for the ages as he appears to be the brain-dead love child of Jabootu himself and... well, I dunno. Probably some kind of weasel. Well, he's a director of the ages for our concerns, but I digress. The point is, after he was shucked off to a mere producer credit for the second Dungeons & Dragons movie, I was begining to fear his unique mix of enthusiasm and complete lack of talent would never again grace the screen. Well, fear no longer!
What remains to be seen is if he continues in the tradition of his first film or is (gasp! shudder!) he actually learned some competence!
But what I'm wondering is, where the flip is the Puppetland movie? |

Is Solomon really at the same level as Uwe Boll? Certainly Dungeons & Dragons was bad, but he can he maintain the same level of ineptness? I haven't seen any of Mr Boll's work yet, but he was actively trying to be bad thanks to that tax thing. Solomon was not. He was just really, really bad at being good, is all.
Watching the trailer, it does not look promising for us. It looks like it won't be much worse than the two Exorcist prequels, which weren't all that good, but neither was the plodding and talky original, to be frank.
For what it's worth, it's supposedly based on the Bell Witch, one of the inspirations for the Blair Witch Project. This could be a weird little subgenre. Such as how Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Silance of the Lambs took some inspiration from the actual serial killer Ed Gein, so some quicky movie company made a movie about Gein, sort of "the true story that inspired the Texas Chainsaw Massacre" kind of thing.
But, yeah, Solomon might actually manage competence here, having learned his lesson from the last one.
Let's keep our fingers crossed. |

If he could work midgets in there somewhere, I would pay stupid money to see it.

I will not stand idly by as you defame weasels, sir.
And yes, Solomon is as bad as Uwe, just less prolific. And, OK, he has a vague sense of cinematography and art direction, unlike Mr. Boll. But that's it.
(I don't think Boll was "trying" to be bad. I think that's a joke that got out of hand: "Boll is the real-life version of 'The Producers'", etc. But there's no actual need for his movies to be bad for him to reap the tax credit. He's just bad.)

I was bummed by D&D, but I say give the guy a chance... many world class filmmaker's started out making crappy b movies.
Still, looking at the press material, the most i'm hoping for is "Competent" and i have a feeling even if it is, it'll be booted direct to video here in australia. |
