Maximum Overdrive-Really bad film but the songs by AC/DC are good. Pity they encompass pretty much the whole damn thing in terms of music. I can see what King was going for, I like the band too, but jeez!

With most "Legend" fans I've talked to, they like whichever version they've heard first.
The Tangerine Dream score is nowhere near as bad as it's reputation suggests... considering they only had three weeks to work on it, it's real good... but I've felt that T. Dream were more concerned with creating pretty tunes than serving the images. I prefer listening to their soundtrack on disc... but Jerry Goldsmith's works better in the movie BECAUSE it's less catchy and isn't always trying to draw attention to itself... the moments of disonance in the score also help the mood methinks.
The European and Australian versions of "Legend" are no better than the American version. All of them butcher the dialogue so it comes out garbled much of the time and all three put on a really silly happy ending.
The Director's Cut of "Legend", included on the "Ultimate Edition" Legend DVD, is a neglected masterpiece.
It fixes all the problems in the European, Australian and American cuts and has a different, much better, ending.
"Legend: The Director's Cut" - a true neglected masterpiece. |

| And which score does the Director's Cut use: TD or Goldsmith? |

Jerry Goldsmith... although the arrangements of certain tracks is slightly different.
The great thing about the Ultimate Edition - like the "Brazil" DVD - though is that includes both the director's cut and the American theatrical release version, so the audience can make up their own mind as to which is the best.

No doubt at all that the DC of Legend is MUCH better than the previous release versions. But I'm sticking to my guns on this one- even though Jerry's score is much better musically, if Tom Cruise is walking around in the woods in green spandex that's gotta sound like Tangerine Dream *g* *g*

| Speaking of Jerry Goldsmith, a few days ago I watched "Patton" (1970) for the very first time. Not a bad movie, certainly, but I found it too long and with too much emphasis on politics rather in war. In the end, the two things that kept me watching were George C. Scott's performance and the rousing music by Goldsmith. |

Jonathon Livingston Seagull Love the sound track by Neal Diamond, but I can't remember how the movie went. I saw it as a kid. I did remember I was crying through the movie. Oh wait I did remember how the movie went. Looks like I'll have to guide that memory back to amnesia lane.
It's Coacoa Puffs, Bob. I have no idea why, but it fits the equation. |

| The Mortal Kombat: Annihilation soundtrack, hands down. I rationalize the very existence of this film, which is so terrible a friend of mine actually called me up immediately after watching it just to bitch at me for not warning him in advance of how wretched it was, as a means to give the world a great soundtrack. It introduced me to such amazing groups as Rammstein and Pitchshifter, plus had a bunch of great material from KMFDM, Scooter, Psykosonik et al, in addition to a number of exclusive, impressive remixes of Megadeth, Manbreak, & Face to Face. I would nominate the Spawn soundtrack for this also, but fanboys-be-damned, I actually enjoyed that one. So sue me. |

Jerry Goldsmith also wrote the rousing score for Supergirl. I have heard that score stolen outright for other movies. Great score, godawful movie.
Casino Royal has a fabulous score as well. The movie however is not as bad as its reputation but still pretty bad.

| Last night I watched Young Guns II. There are many things wrong with that movie, but one that is certainly right is Alan Silvestri's epic score. |

| I was also rather fond of the Stuart Copeland score to the less than stellar Highlander II: The Quickening. |
