For those who might have missed it, Liz has posted another review on her site. It is, of course, uniformly excellent. It might have significant interest for Jabootu-ites: Jaws: The Revenge!!!

Shiver me timbers! Thanks, Liz!

I've read most of her review, and I've browsed Ken's reviews a few times, and I was thinking - as ridiculous as J4 was in premise, with a few minor tweaks (and pretending 3 didn't happen) 4 could've been a decent cap on the trilogy.
Imagine if the whole thing was a delusion of Ellen. After the events of 1 and 2, her husband dies of a heart attack. The part of her blaming fear of the shark isn't too offbase. You modify the beginning so that it's Sean deciding, after the death of his father, to come home to take care of his mother, and steps into his fathers shoes.
Why still there? It's the family estate, and mom won't leave her memories of Dad/etc. So he takes the only available job (his dad's). His mother wigs out over the whole shark thing, and when he goes anyway, she goes to confront him. She wigs out, knocks him overboard, and he falls into the propellors. The blockage he was going to investigate was instigated by her to get him there.
When he dies, she snaps, makes the whole shark thing up. The autopsy is sealed, as they don't want anymore bad press (another Brody/Shark death). The family forces her to go to the Bahamas (if she's medicated due to shock, she might not resist going) where she keeps wigging out, as in the film.
The whole segment of her going to get the shark, is the last part of her self delusion, unable to admit she caused Sean's death. Caine goes out to save her, but he'd been doing his own looking into events (concerned about his new love) and finds out it wasn't a shark fatality.
The climax of the film is Caine trying to get to her, trying to convince her over radio its all in her head, and realizing what she did, kills herself to 'kill the shark' for good (or if thats too bleak, Caine dives in and rescues her from drowning).
I think that would have been doable with retaining most of the film, and would've been a better story as well as a good cap to the series. Of course, I havent seen any Jaws flicks in over a decades, so YMMV>
