The Navy vs. the Night Mosters is something that I've always wanted to see, ever since catching some small chunks of it on the Saturday afternoon monster movie ("His arm's been torn out of its socket!"). But that was decades ago and on a B&W TV to boot, so I never knew (or cared to look up) that it was not a 1950s B&W thing. From what I've read so far, it might not be worth hunting down...
Anyway. Ken, I have a couple of corrections for the very first line of the review proper: quote: a seeming nod to the film’s... probable inspiration, either Joe Campbell’s novella Who Goes There?, or the film adapted from it, Howard Hawk’s 1951 The Thing from Another World.
First off, the author of "Who Goes There?" was John W. Campbell, Jr. And since the co-director's name is Howard Hawks, the punctuation is more properly , "Howard Hawks's 1951 The Thing from Another World."

Good catch. "Who Goes There?" may be Campbell's best story.
The Navy vs The Night Monsters feels like a movie that should be in black and white, and made in the 1950's. The last hurrah of the old time sci-fi flicks, maybe?
Reality is a crutch for people who can't face up to science fiction. |

Thanks for the corrections! I hope to do some editing on the article tonight.
NvNM does seem a pretty classic '50s monster movie. Damn, it's a shame they don't make stuff like that anymore, warts and all.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court? HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

If they remade Night Monsters now the monster trees would be the result of and EEEEvil Corpguvmintary genetic engineering bioweapon thing ... and there'd be some EEEEevil hotel owner or travel agent who would keep the island open to tourists even though he knew that there were EEEEEvil Corpguvmintary, acid secreting monters trees on the loose. EEEEEEvil Travel Agent, yeah, that's the ticket!
