This was mentioned last year.
At the end of this (ahem) "movie" the "irony" is that big shot killer Coalman Francis dies with two cents and a broken cigarette in his pocket. Someone said that it should have been a cigarette and a QUARTER because that was the take when he robbed a diner, killing the two people there.
I have solved this mystery!
Last night I rememebred that a friend told me that in the old days, you would put a quarter in a cigarette machine and you would get a pack of cigarettes with TWO CENTS in the wrapper for change. The prop man must have needed to BUY some cigarettes for the scene and Coalman Francis was too cheep to spring for it. So the prop man had to use THE QUARTER also needed for the ending!
Let us now salute this "artist" by raiseing our thumbs and forefingers and giveing three cheers:

Hey, maybe it shows Francis's obsessive devotion to detail - we should assume that the character spent the quarter on a pack of cigarettes, and is therefore left with two cents.

You're probably right. But instead of "obsessive attention to detail", it's probably more like a common detail fairly well known at the time and not needing much thought (use a quarter to buy a pack of cigarettes and have two cents leftover).

The exposure to the bomb's radiation mutated him, giving him the ability to (in X-Men terms) "body-slide" in order to pursue his victims. This is also how he got up to the top of the mesa, that is otherwise only accessible by parachute.
The reason his body-sliding is so haphazard is because he's no longer a noted scientist, he's now a fiend, kill just to be killing. So while he has the power, he doesn't have the conscious ability to direct it other than "victim" and "shelter."
