Can't this guy step in front of a bus or something?

Semi-retired from rapping, Eminem is targeting a return to acting.
The hip-hop star, whose film debut in 2002's 8 Mile was a critical and box-office smash, is attached to star in Paramount's contemporary update of CBS' classic TV series Have Gun Will Travel, Daily Variety reports.

Someone at Paramount needs a swift kick.

You know things are going well with your burgeoning screen career when you find yourself ripping off '80s Rutger Hauer action movies.

PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court?
HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

Does this mean that in thirty years we can look forward to seeing Eminem starring as Masten Thrust in a remake of The Last Dinosaur?

It seems to be a pattern that they will take a serious (Or semi-serious) TV show and turn it into a mocking movie that is so stupid that the audience will hate everyone involved with the re-make.

We can only hope this will not be the exception.

Somewhere Gene Roddenberry is rolling
over in his grave. (ISTR that his first
professional gig was as a producer and
writer for HGWT).

Wait: his ashes were scattered in space,
weren't they?

I sense a BIG meteorshower over Hollywood
any day now....

I'd guess that the target audience for this flick have never even heard of Richard Boone or the original HGWT (I know about the show, but aside from promos, I've actually not watched it myself).

Except for the title, and the character's name, the movie probably will be have little recognizable from the original series -- so why even bother to use the name? Maybe the producers either think it will give it some sort of credibility with the audience "see -- it's based on a classic tv show..." or they're so afraid of putting out something that might be thought of as original that they've got to slap the name of a previously successful product on it.

Hey, if black rappers can appear in all sorts of crappy movies, so can Eminem. BTW, I just saw the Poseidon mini and the presence of a rapper among the actors was sorely missed, although we still had Steve Guttemberg, Rutger Hauer, Adam Baldwin and Peter Weller.

I'm 26 and I'm only vague aware of the show HGWT. In fact, I always thought it was a movie and I have no idea what it was about.

I think the idea of Emenim staring as anything other than himself sounds ridiculous, but I don't hate his music like some people might.

I think part of the problem with all of these movies based on old TV shows is that most younger audiences have never seen them, even in syndication. I have never watched a single episode of Chalie's Angels, Starsky and Hutch or Miami Vice, though I have seen countless parodies of these shows.

I dread the day 15 or so years from now when they make semi-parody movies of shows that I actually watch like Lost or the Sopranos.

I watched Branded and F-Troop too. I was never a big western fan though. Maverick was great- I really liked that one.

As I see it, casting Eminem as Paladin is no stupider than casting Will Smith as Jim West.

I can't wait for the Green Acres movie starring LL Cool J and Paris Hilton.

Exactly. Which is why I seldom go to the movies any more.
