Touring again in cineCutre, one of the best Spanish bad movie resources, I noticed a section showing Mexican B-movies. It's hard to find any of those here, but next time you end up drunk in Tijuana, think of it and grab a few of them. The titles and covers are enough to wake you up from any mezcal induced paranoia:

Oh, don't bother about the last ones, those are Mexican covers for "foreign" movies. |

I'm tempted to find out if Metralla en Tijuana (that's Shrapnel in Tijuana for those who live far away from Rio grande) or Cementerio de Cholos* are available in my country. That Steven Seagal wannabe on the cover holding a toy gun is very appealing.
And those guacamole-westerns look funny as Hell, too.
* Don't ask me what "Cholo" means, I have no clue. But, as they say in CineCutre, if a regular cemetary is scary enough, a Cholo's cemetary must be the bomb. |

A cholo is term implying a Hispanic male that typically dresses in chinos (khahki pants), a wifebeater sleeveless teeshirt or a flannel shirt with only the top buttoned, a hairnet, or with a bandana around the forehead, usually halfway down over the eyes. Cholos often have black ink tattoos, commonly involving Catholic imagery, or calligraphy messages or family names.
Cholos often drive low riders.
A farcical example of a cholo from the movies is Cheech, from Cheech and Chong. by Abula Feb 20, 2004 email it permalink: del.icio.us Send to a friend your email: their email: 2. cholo 228 up, 84 down

At a hispanic grocery store in my area, I found a copy of THE BLUE DEMON VERSOS LOS CEREBROS MALES. In color, and in Spanish.
I don't really care that I can understand one word in 20; there's a masked wrestler and a dancing gogo girl (the movie is from the late 60's). I'm in heaven when I watch it.

There's some English-subtitled Mexican wrestler movies available on Amazon. Search for Santo.
