I heard his obit on NPR. Caught me by surprise that he became a Jehovah's Witness, distributing the Watchtower door-to-door, then going home to write more Mike Hammer adventures...

Oddly, I just watched Ring of Fear over the weekend, a murder melodrama set against the Clyde Beatty Circus, in which Spillaine plays himself solving the crimes. A short write-up will appear this week on the Blog.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court?

I used to read a lot of mysteries, but Mickey Spillane wrote like Raymond Chandler on a bad day.
Spillane also helped make the hard boiled/film noir style a joke by the Sixties.
