Surface, Threshold and Invasion are all out next month in an eight day span.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court? HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

These shows aren't ringing any bells. Anyone want to elaborate?

| Three seperate and quite different (From what I can gather) shows about alien invasions which came out at about the same time late last year and none of which made it beyond one season before being cancelled. I haven't seen any of them but although Surface caught my interest because it contains sea creatures, so I may have to watch it. |

Ah, that explains it. I don't keep up with any current TV at all except for 24 and Lost.

[Very Vague / General Spoilers Possible]
Threshhold looked promising to me at the start, but the storyline soon took a turn down a one-way street ending in a cul-de-sac. By the 3rd or 4th episode, they would have either had to radically change the rules & stakes of the game (which might have proved interesting), or be doomed to circular driving for all of eternity.
I watched the entire season of Surface, and found it fairly enjoyable. For my tastes, it focused a little too much around a high-school aged character, but that's only a minor gripe. Towards the end of the season, I got the feeling the writers knew there wasn't going to be a second; if you watch the whole season in quick succession, the pacing will probably feel more like a feature film than a TV series. And what the hell, it's got sea monsters.
Invasion was the best of the lot, IMO; that's the one that had me looking for "Save Invasion" petitions & such when I heard of its impending fate. I'm really going to miss it. Next to Lost, I think this show had some of the most human characters on television. The writing explored vast ranges of personality & emotion - crisis and bravery, hesitance and reluctance, uncertainty and doubt - much more adeptly than prime-time fare can usually be expected to. It was willing to take big risks here and there, too. William Fichtner made a great lead. (I may have to confess to undue influence on that count though, since I always associate him with his role in one of my favorite films, Contact.) If SciFi is listening: this is the one you should pick up, guys!

It was kind of interesting, actually, how all three shows took different routes. Threshold was the crime drama alien show, and Paul is correct (as I think we discussed when the shows started) that it was interesting in the beginning but very quickly became a Stop This Week's Alien Scheme show. The effects of what the aliens were trying to do were so massive that there was little middle ground in terms of containable and uncontainable.
Surface went with sea monsters, which was cool, although the government conspiracy stuff gave me gas (not because of ideology, but because it's now such a horribly tiresome cliche), and I didn't like a single one of the running characters. The kid was such an asshole that I wanted his perennially selfish actions to get his family killed or something, just so I could enjoy getting to see him realize what an asshole he had been. And the female scientist character wasn't much better.
Invasion was the best of the lot, and more or less an Invasion of the Body Snatchers sort of deal. Unlike Lost, however, it wasn't able to keep people interested as it slooowly unraveled its mysterious plotline. And so the show ended with its mysteries essentially intact, a sorrow also shared by fans of the same producer's earlier horror series, American Gothic, which featured a sheriff character quite similar to Fichtner's.

Ken : Your Threshold description reminds me of The Invaders ( A quinn Martin production)...sorry, had to add that...but, yeah, thats kinda what happened to Roy Thinnis character.
As for Invasion: Not intrested. Tired of such shows. I got enough paranoia reading the papers! That, and the old "They look just like us" is jinkxed with me cause, deep down, its just to save money on building aliens. It ain't no Farscape!
And Surface: Nice fishy plot device....still wanted to see Godzilla take on the aliens...but that kid was a Kenny!.A Kenny i tells ya! And you know what we feel about them! Nice monsters, potentialy good plot, annoying actors....Eh, i'll wait for the library DvD, then i can jump to the good parts...fish eating people!

| Surface was okay, but as the season went on I found it more and more grating that every single character drove a shiny new Chrysler of some sort. |
