What "people" think is another question, but there is the matter of Gibson being a world-famous celebrity actor/director and Haq being some wanna-be Jihadist scumbag.

It is possible that I will end up forgiving Mel based solely on the opportunistic ugliness and hypocrisy of his critics.
Remember when Spielberg stepped down from his position as a national leader of the Boy Scouts because he disapproved of their non-acceptance of gay troop leaders?
He'd held that leadership position FOR YEARS, fully aware of the Boy Scout policy on homosexuality.
All of sudden, this starts to bother him? What a sell out. |

Heck, I'm with you.
Apart from the fact I don't feel it up to me to forgive Mel -- what he said was ugly and wrong, but I don't think anyone's been able to prove that he behaves like an anti-semite.

South Park just re-ran the "Mad Mel" segment concerning showings of The Passion of the Christ leading to anti-Semitism, in which he's protrayed as a loon. That's a pretty good repeat spanking.
