When I started making my way into B movies, Franco soon caught my attention. Not only he is a compatriot, but he's made more than 200 movies (from horror to thrillers to porn), and has worked with the likes of Orson Welles, Christopher Lee or Klaus Kinski. That his films were so hard to find only added interest to his figure.
But then I caught one of his masterpieces, Vampyros Lesbos on TV (and I'd like to thank national TV to screen such a thing on prime time, really), and I inmediately learned how talented Franco is. I mean, he must have some talent to pass trash like that for art. But he is no filmmaker, that's sure.
I've avoided all his films ever since, if that one was a good one, I don't want to imagine how bad are his lesser efforts. |

I felt the same way after the Diabolical Dr. Z. That's one of his good movies?!
Sadly, after sitting through Dracula contra Frankenstein (even at double speed), I no longer have to imagine just how bad bad can be.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court?

IMHO his masterpiece is his "adaptation" of Justine. He managed to get Tyrone Power's barely legal daughter nekkid plus Jack Palance in one of his most spectacularly drunken insane performances ever. Oh, and Klaus Kinski is in there too but next to drunk Jack you barely notice. If Udu Kier was in there somewhere it would be the perfect film, but sadly, that was not to be.
