Another movie for the kiddies to avoid (although I think it's out of print by now) is the animated Japanese import Sea Prince and the Fire Child. The first two-thirds of this "family" film are as Disneyesque as anything Uncle Walt ever put on the screen.
Then everybody dies. |

Try the origonal "That Darn Cat". It's funnier and more intelligent than the remake.
"The Queen is testing poisons." CLEOPATRA, 1935 |

And then there's Ringing Bells in which a cuuuute little lamb's mother is killed by a wolf, and the lamb compells the wolf to team him how to fight, and ultimately kills the wolf, discovering to his horror that the wolf wanted to die fighting all along, and runs screaming into the night, because he is neither lamb nor wolf, and there is no-one to kill him.
---------- We've always been united in stupidity. That's why there is no hope. But, then again, when has that ever stopped us?

I thought all children either read the book or had it read to them. Twitterpate, your nephews might like FANTASIA and FANTASIA 2000. Only watch the films first, you know your nephews better than I do, and think if either of your nephews might be frightened by the devil on top of the mountain (in FANTASIA) or the jack-in-the-box and the rats and the being swallowed by a fish in the "Steadfast Tin Soldier" episode of FANTASIA 2000. Also watch THE THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA before you show it to them. Thomasina's "death," Mary's near-death, and the fight-and-fire at the circus could all be really frightening, really upsetting, to a small child. I saw the picture when I was about eight and I still remember how I felt when I saw Mary running out in the rain, chasing Thomasina. |
