| I only saw a little bit of the Birds of Prey TV series, and wasn't too well-versed on the characters, but I felt compelled to right a HUGE document (5000 words) on how to set up a sort of reimagined storyline for the series shortly after it came out to make a 'better' series. |

Yeah, that was definitely Leviathan (Aka the underwater monster movie where Ernie Hudson survives right up until the end when he is randomly killed by some sharks).
To get of topic I would have to say the worst example of the punching out the 'obnoxious' superior as demonstrated in Leviathan is from the Stallone movie Cobra. The movie is almost over, the bad guys have all been massacred and the by the book higher ranking cop who was has been chewing our "hero" throughout the movie for being trigger happy, violent and playing by his own rules etc. etc. (The criticism is not without justification) approaches him. Instead of going for another attack on Stallone he apologises for being so hard on him early and says words basically to the effect he would have done things differently but Stallone's methods work, no hard feelings. Then Stallone punches him out. It's quite jaw-dropping, it makes our "hero" look like a complete dick. I'm struggling to comprehend how the film makers thought this would make the audience like or identify with "Marion Cobretti" (One of the films big pieces of gut-busting irony is that ultra tough cop Stallone's first name is Marion ala John Wayne, ho ho ho). |

| Good old Cobra. Now many books have been made into a movie twice and failed like that. |

Getting back to the original question, sometimes I enjoy recutting films in my head, or tweaking dialog. Wondering what went wrong and fixing it mentally can be a lot of fun, although I agree it's a sign the film failed.

Hey, neat! I thought I was the only one who noodled out alternate endings. While the “could have been good” films are the worse just for being so bloody frustrating, they can at least foster some creative thinking in the viewer. I remember an old episode of mst3k where Joel espoused the philosophy that fiction is just fiction and you don’t have to just blindly except the ending handed to you as “the real ending”. (Even a good ending should be mulled over.) BTW Jack, love your version of ‘The Skeleton Key’. The original was so pointless.

That is an interesting viewpoint.

Thanks. What I think is neat about that idea is that they could just reassemble the cast and crew for like a day and shoot that ending and tack it onto the movie as-is and it would work.
My way of improving the Santa Clause would be a little more involved but can be summed up that if you put on the suit, you become the guy, right/ So if you want out, you get someone else to to put on the suit "by accident or design"
