File this under movies I never thought I'd see again:

For the uninitiated, Frankenstein: The True Story was an early '70s TV miniseries, highly regarded in its time, with an all-star cast that included James Mason, Jane Seymour, and Tom Baker. It has long since disappeared from the TV airwaves and up till now had never seen a video release (an edited version once made the rounds on Goodtimes Video, but never the full miniseries.)
The only question is whether it will hold up after all these years. Nonetheless, I'm glad to see Universal reaching into its vaults and giving us something different instead of releasing the usual DVD crap, like another Land Before Time movie. (Actually, they're doing that, too.)

Don't forget Michael Sarrazin, he was the monster for heaven's sake.
I always liked Sarrazin, but he's largely forgotten today. Too bad.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court? HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

I'm pretty happy -- I sort of collect Frankenstein films.

Speaking of which, when you return from your hiatus, Ken, maybe you could do a review of Sarrazin's crapfest Captive Hearts.
I watched it at a screening back in 1987. When asked how Sarrazin got the part of Sgt. MacManus (and Sarrazin was horrible in the role, by the way), the producer replied, "The studio had signed Sarrazin to a multi-picture deal way back in the 70s. He was still one movie shy of his commitment. So the studio gave him the part in Captive Hearts just so they could finally get rid of him."
Needless to say, Sarrazin was not at the screening that day. |
