Just got through with my 13th annual viewing of the Gary Larson Halloween special and was wondering if any of you out there did the same. To tell the truth I'm not sure how I felt about it the first year (I bet I'm not the only one, otherwise it would be a video classic by now) but it just gets better with each viewing. The mood is just flippin' creepy and damned ironic, rather than laugh out loud funny, but really grows on you. The "I'll be Missing You" segment (with the wolves) will totally mess you up, and the zombie dude ranch, well...
Highly reccomended if you can find it.

Mine was taped off of the original broadcast (October of 1994), but it looks like there was a VHS made at one time, and then discontinued. You may be able to find used copies if you keep your eyes open.
As for me- I'm going to have to eventually get one of those VHS/DVD recorders for my stuff like this. I can't see it lasting much longer.

I see it listed in Amazon and Ebay. But only coming from The United Kingdom in non-US VHS form. Someone needs to transfer this to DVD and make it available to everyone.

I remember watching this when it first aired...good times.

When I started this thread I didn't know the only VHS versions were PAL, not NTSC. I'm sorry for being such a tease, that wasn't my intent. As for the transfer to DVD part...well...let's take that one step at a time. I actually had to look up the word 'bittorrent', I'm so behind the times in some ways...
I'm willing to share, but don't quite know how to do it at the moment. Jeez- imagine if all of the copies of this thing are in the hands of guys like me. You folks are screwed!!!:)

Well, I will say that as a result of my knowledge of the Dark Arts I have now seen this and it is as sick, weird and twisted as anyone could possibly hope. I think it's absolutely great but I'm sort of shocked it ever even aired.
[POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!] . . . . . . I can see the suits now- "There's like, FIVE MINUTES of bugs! And they aren't even saying anything! Just these weird bugs!! ON A PLANE!!!" Awesome.

Thar may be spoilers!!!!
Sardu- bless you and your knowledge of those all-important dark arts! That impression that you had about how surprising it is that it even aired has certainly run through my own mind many times throughout the years. I'm at the point now where I kinda wish that they went all the way with the 'no dialog' purity of it all, and I guess that they technically did, but to me the spoken narration for the "Deep in the Heart of Texas" bit is kind of unnecessary. That part strikes me as network meddling, like they couldn't let a half hour go by without a spoken word because it would really freak people out, though I'd have to admit that if that really is true then it's not much to complain about.
Another thing along those lines- on that insect plane bit there is a part where you see a bug looking at that platter of grubs, and then at the insect steward holding the platter, and back again, etc. until he finally decides to bite the head off of the steward. That part seems to have been edited from the get-go. The timing is just off, almost like the original plan was to show the actual decapitation rather than to suggest it.
Overall, though, yeah- it's amazing that the thing was even aired. :)

I hadn't really thought of that as a spoiler but just to be safe I edited the post...
[here be definite spoilers] . . . . . . . I noticed that cut with the platter too- I'm sure you're right. It's weird because thats no more disturbing than anything else in the show! I mean c'mon- zombie dude ranch!! *lol* I agree about the narration too.

I'm guessing it would look better than the file that's "around"...
