| Dittmar, I know it's been 3-4 years, but I'd still like to see your top 9 Bond films. |

Most of the blame for the horrendous dropoff in the quality of the Bond movies falls squarely, in my opinion, on Pierce Brosnan. Moore's films were campy (except for ones like For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy), but they were supposed to be like that. You knew going in that Moore's Bond was practically going to be winking at you, inviting you to come along for the ride. Brosnan's Bond kicks you in the groin, shoots you in the kneecap, and then tells you to take this SERIOUSLY, damn it, while he fights a guy shooting lightning bolts out of his gloves. Seriously, after being hailed as the "savior" of the Bond series when he starred in Goldeneye, his films went from great to good (Tomorrow Never Dies) to poor (The World is Not Enough) to downright vomit-inducing (Die Another Day).
I really don't think that's fair. Brosnan didn't write the things.
On the other hand, I don't know exactly how they managed to produce a wonderfully-written Bond movie just as the new guy comes along, but again, while Craig is amazing as Bond, he didn't write the script or direct the action. Paul Haggis and Martin Campbell did, respectively. Which means I'm in the unfortunate position of not being able to hate Paul Haggis.
Hey, I just thought of something: Haggis is a writer/director known for overblown, self-important Oscar wannabe movies, but he turns out to be great at scripting an action film. If they can't get the same creative team back for the next movie, why not hire Frank Darabont? He's another self-important writer-director who has real talent when it comes to genre movies. And this could make up for not being able to make Indiana Jones IV. Heck, cross out "Indy" and pencil in "Bond", and replace "Nazis" with "Terrorists", and he could use the same script!

You mean, he's kind of the anti-Akira Goldman? |

That would suggest that Akiva Goldsman is good at scripting self-important Oscar-winning films. Which he's not.

Happy to report that Casino Royale is now the second highest grossing Bond film of all time, creeping up on (ugh!) Die Another Day. C'mon, Craig, you can do it!

Addendum: adjusting for ticket price inflation, guess what the highest grossing Bond film of all time is (according to boxofficemojo)?
It's number 26 on the list. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm
