I was thinking of doing a "Compare" night. So far I've picked Travolta in "Pulp Fiction" vs. Travolta in "Battlefield Earth", and Jeremy Irons in "Dungeons&Dragons"...but versus what? He gives a very, very good performance in "Merchant of Venice", but is there a better example out there?

"Reversal of Fortune" might be another good choice. I found it to be a strangely compelling movie- at first I had absolutely no interest in seeing it, but once it got going I didn't want it to end. I'm pretty sure he got an oscar for that performance as well.

Wow! This is a truly fascinating question, Asta!
My first response was going to be "Well, of course, there was that time he...", but I couldn't think of the movie.
I now have scoured IMDB, and that better movie doesn't exist. Here is a very talented actor who has never really been in a great movie. A lot of STRANGE ones, but never a great one. Other that MrPorter's suggestion of Reversal of Fortune, the only other one I can put up is Dead Ringers, but then again, I am a very strange person, and the idea of a woman with 8 wombs paired with twin brother gynocologists who are mostly insane really tweaked my interest... :-)
Can anyone do any better?

I thought he was OK in the Lolita remake.

| How about making it a genre comparison instead? D&D versus a GOOD sword and sorcery quest flick. Trouble is, what is a good S&S flick? I'd suggest LOTR, but that's too long to watch, and it has the wrong tone to it. |

How about Conan The Destroyer?? OK, it's not good exactly but it has a lot more of genuine roleplaying spirit than D&D...

| I'd go with JazzyJ on Deadringers, not only it is the movie that placed him on the maps for almost everybody, but his subtle performance as the two twins is an almost opposite to his maniacal performance on Dungeons and dragons. |

There's always The Gamers...that's a true roleplaying movie...
Hell, even "Barbara the Barbarian" is a better S&S movie than Dungeons & Dragons.

Dude! Is that a "Travelers" quote? I used to collect that comic...
Do ya think Irons went all nutzoid cause he thought it was right for the material? If so, why?
