They played MEN IN BLACK on the Cartoon Network agine, last night. Liked the movie, hated its location...
Used to be, i could get hold of toons i liked by haveing Toon Network. Not any more! DUCK DODGERS IN THE 24th and A HALF CENTURY? Only if you can afford BOOMERANG. I'm sorry, but this irritates me! Conceptualy, if nothing else! This blurring of Genres is putting me off my Prozac. Anyone agree, and want to wack some heads at the cable networks?

You know, I really thought that "narrowcasting" would catch on the way it was predicted - if you liked a particular genre, you could spend your money just on channels that concentrated on it. However, they are quickly reverting to what I guess represent entertainment equilibrium - the cheapest shows that would attract the largest audience, even if the genre is abandoned. The irony, of course, is that this will doom most of the stations. Why pay for The History Channel if today's "historical lesson" involves redecorating a house from 1950? Or the Arts and Entertainment Channel when it concentrates on murders, tattoo artists and roller derby? Of course, my absolute nightmare is when "documentaries" on frauds like Nostradamus get pushed off as "science" on THe Discovery Channel.
I think Pay Per View is the only hope of the genre fanatic - no channels to commit to, just a more immediate version of Netflix. Rent what you want, and leave the rest behind. That way, there's a chance for inexpensive programming that appeals to a niche audience to find its feet, before everything is homogenized into a beige, lukewarm, bland mush.
I agree that a show featuring the wacking of heads of Network execs would appeal to me greatly. To be seen on the "Just Deserts" network, perhaps? |

| I don't mind it when TCM strays from its Classic movie forumla and airs original documentaries or something like those Dick Cavet specials (so long as they don't become a nightly thing), but wrestling on Sci-Fi? Live actions movies on CN? Reality shows on GSN? Its too much. |

CN airing live action movies makes me want to hit things.
Still, the other ones make sense in a way. Most reality shows ARE game shows as well, even if they're not usually entertaining ones. (I'm happy to catch reruns of "The Amazing Race" though.) And wrestling lives up to half of "science fiction." If SFC wanted wrestling, they should've snatched up airing rights to KAIJU BIG BATTEL~! I'd gladly set time aside on Tuesday nights for that. Those 90-second clips G4 sometimes slips in between crap-ass CGI Transformers shows don't cut it.

That...would make sence! I wanted cable for original, genre related programming...imagin my disappointment when THIS crap arrived!
