By the way - interesting coincidences that led me to using my tagline. I have enjoyed "Indestructible Man" since I first saw it on WPIX's "Chiller Theater", as a kid (I grew up in New york City). Also, my middle name is Charles, my childhood nickname (which my sister still calls me) was "Butch" - and I was born in 1956. Go figure.

Yeah, I'm an old WPIX-TV "Chiller Theater" fan, too (we've discussed it before on these boards.) I was a huge Lon Chaney Jr. fan back in the day but I only think I saw Indestructible Man once.

I can't remember, did Chaney even have dialogue in that movie or was his character mute?

He had dialogue - he vowed vengeance on Paul Lowe, his "stinking rotten mouthpiece" (ie. "attorney" - a well done piece of acting, by the way)- it was his electrical resurrection that "burned out his vocal cords...yet it hadn't destroyed his brain..."

Judging from the episode numbers, I assume the Joel to Mike ratio this time is 3:1? Usually Mike gets the lion's share for some reason.

UPDATE: Release date for Vol. 11 has been pushed back to June 26th.

In other Satellite News, the rights have been renegotiated for Vol. 1, which had gone out of print earlier this year. It should be back on shelves soon.

Don't hold your breath for Vol. 10, though.

Does anyone know what actually happened with Volume 10? Luckily I bought it the day it came out but I'm curious as to why it had such a short shelf life.

About the "Jack Perkins" wraps...

For a short period of time, some episodes of MST3K were broken up into hour-long blocks and sold to certain stations for syndication, called "The Mystery Science Theater Hour." I don't remember them being aired for more than a year, but for someone who didn't have access to Comedy Central, it was a godsend. Heck, some of the episodes I saw I'm not even sure are available in proper format.
Anyway, for whatever reason, they decided to have a host to do an intro and outro for these hour-long shows. They got a guy named Jack Perkins, a balding old man with a white beard and moustache. He was fairly annoying, and I remember wondering who this old coot was and what he had to do with MST3K. I couldn't decide if he was legit, or if he was someone trying to parody those stodgy old hosts you see on A&E and PBS.
Years later, thanks to the MST3K Episode Guide, I found out it was Mike Nelson all along. There's a chapter in the book where he describes going into makeup for hours to prepare for these segments, and how awesome it was that their puppet show was making fun of a host on A&E. It's pretty funny stuff.
Anyway, now you know!

Yeah, I was also surprised to learn that "Jack Perkins" was really Mike*. The make-up is so good, and he was so good at playing the old coot, that it's really hard to believe it's him. Though to tell the truth I haven't seen enough of the real Jack Perkins to reliably compare them.

Check it out:

*I learned about it from the same source you did. The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Amazing Colossal Episode Guide is an awesome book. I'm sure glad I bought it when I found it in that used book store! The scan above comes from it. Too bad the guide stops at the end of season six though. They really, really need to release a revised edition covering the complete series.

Oh yeah, I remember "Jack Perkins" now! Aside from a mention of the show in "GURPS Atomic Horror", this was my introduction to MST3K.

@Eric B.

It's assumed that Vol. 10 went kerplooey because Rhino got into a rights dispute over Godzilla vs. Megalon.
