I dunno. I get the feeling I would like it if it were an original piece rather than yet another crumby remake. Like someone once said they laughed all the way through the Dukes of Hazzard movie, but after it was over, said that movie was not the Dukes of Hazzard. You know? |

I don't know why anybody would allow Rob Zombie to make another movie after watching House of 1000 Corpses. I haven't come that close to walking out of the theater halfway through the movie since Highlander 2 and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Instead of Carpenter's eeriy and effective incidental soundtrack from the original, we'll probably be treated to a lot of speed metal and teenage characters more annoying than the cast of The Blair Witch Project.
And ditto on The Dukes of Hazzard. It just happened to have a car that looked like one in a television show I used to watch a long, long time ago just before Dallas came on and I went to bed. It almost felt as if the movie was almost mocking that younger version of me for ever watching a television show that at it's heart was a decent, clean show with likeable characters. |

You know, I had the same reaction to Ho1KC (House of 1K Corpses, get it? *g*) but I found The Devil's Rejects to be pretty good. Uneven and not without flaws, but competent and pretty engaging in spots. I think Rod could have potential as a filmmaker, even if it's as more of a low-rent Tarantino retro-type. But remaking a classic like Halloween- he's got balls the size of grapefruits to think he'll pull that one off.

Rob Zombie's heart is in the right place. Plus he's extremely intelligent. His enthusiasm for horror films, plus his artistic ability and intellect is bound to serve him in learning from his mistakes. I predict at least one "classic" from him - if not now, then some time in the future.

I'll give him the benefit of doubt. As Citizen Carrier, I found House of the 1,000 corpses quite excruciating, but I think The Devil's Rejects is a great movie. It true captures the spirit of Sam Peckinpah, and its comparison between Peckinpah's outcasts and the splatter villains was dead on.
If there's one upcoming remake of a John Carpenter film that may turn out good after all it's this one. So far, they're a mixed bag. Assault on Precint 13 was a pretty decent old-style 80s actioner, but The Fog is a stinker. |

I agree completely as far as H1kCorpses and Devil's Rejects. The first was excruciating, but the second was a pretty decent genre film. Although I will say that in the unlikely event I ever meet Rob Zombie, I will smack him upside the head, simply because I now cannot hear one of my favorite songs ever, "Midnight Rider" (the Allman Bro's version, not Greg Allman's toothless solo version) without thinking of the opening credits to Devil's Rejects.
Devil's Rejects also has one of the most bizarrly funny scenes I've seen in a while, the scene with the chicken salesman.
As far as a remake of Halloween is concerned, my only comment is "WHYYYYYYYYY?!?"
